Y34 headlights

Got some kouki HID headlights for my Y34 Gloria and a bit confused about the globes, which is the low/high low beam etc.

Correct me if I'm wrong - LHS side is a projector setup (HB3 halogen globe) and the RHS is a reflector setup (D2R HID globe).

Curious at to why the HID would go in the reflector? Am I missing something?

Hmm that inner ring looks aftermarket.

Headlight is centre, high beam is inner. Is the car in Aus? Did compliance re-wire your headlights and remove the HIDs?

my car is here, the headlights I bought recently from Japan. my car came into Aus with the older non-HID headlights (halogens on high and low).

D2R, made for reflectors. It's OEM on some Japanese cars, cheaper than projector setup but not as good.

OH that left/inner high beam isn't a projector. The ring bit looks OEM (it's just a trim/cosmetic bit, probably casted on).

A good upgrade for HB3 (a.k.a 9005 in USA) is HIR1 (9011).

Toyota 90981-13066 goes straight in, no need to mod bulb base or connector.

Also, did the headlights come with ballasts and bulbs?

The HID ballasts sit under the headlights. It's a bitch to get to. Gotta remove the bumper basically.

yeah the headlights came with ballasts and globes. havent pulled out the D2R yet but HB3 is at least intact.

I'd check the reflective surfaces to make sure they aren't faded/burnt. Apart from that, should be plug and play.

any way to checks the ballasts without wiring them up?

Give it 12V from a jumper or similar (I have a lithium battery jumper pack, but lead acid battery jumper works as well).
