hi guys i am looking to fit either an R33 or an S14/15 silvia read IRS set up in an old school capri.

there is a skyline rear craddle local here for sale for $350, its missing struts and one axle.

so my questions are;

is this price reasonable?

how much is the replacement axle?

will this diff have a factory LSD?

how do identify that it in fact the R200 diff to ensure it is from an R33?

from what i can gather the ration should be about 4.1, if i wanted to change to more like 3.7-3.5 what would be the best way to achieve this?

lastly, if i go down this route, is there anyone in perth i could offer a carton or something to take some measurements of their car, would need to take the back wheels off to do this.

Price isn't terrible.

Depends where you're looking for them.  Anywhere from $100 from someone who has plenty of them and sees little value in them, to $300+ where they are in shorter supply.

How would we know?  NA cars don't have LSDs.  The factory LSD (from turbo Skylines, not GTRs) is a viscous LSD, which is poo, and is essentially open behind any engine with more than stock torque.  Your proposed purchase could have an aftermarket centre in it for all we know.  It could be from an NA.

Does it have 5 bolt axles, or 6 (3 groups of 2)?

Google images.  But S chassis cars are R200 also.  You won't find anything other than R200s in R and S chassis cars in Australia.

S chassis cars have numerically lower gearing, in the 3.7 region.

I would wager that the whole thing will be too wide for an old Capri.  Some (probably extensive & expensive) surgery will likely be required. You could also consider MX-5 rear ends perhaps.  What sort of power are you trying to cope with?

I'm looking to throw as fairly worked naturally aspirated 5L Windsor in there.

I know how much fabrication is required to make it fit and yeah you're right it's quite involved and but I'm ok with that, as for the woods again it is wider but I'm putting a body kit on the Capri which will accommodate the width.

I have spoken to people that have done the conversion both front and back so I know the benefits of it and pitfalls I still think it's worth doing, and I doubt an MX5 rear end with hold up.

I'm looking at the Nissan one based off my research because from what I can gather the diff is relatively strong, the suspension is fairly good they have much bigger wheel bearings then the Capri they are relatively easy to get a hold of and have good aftermarket support. I'm still not 100% Ion going the Nissan route yet still doing my research but it's looking like a fairly good option at this stage.

Seems like you're on the right track.

Budget on making sure that you have an aftermarket 2-way mechanical centre put into the diff.  Make sure you buy a 5-bolt - because the shafts and CVs are a little better.  But you will probably want to also buy another diff to get hold of some ~3.7 gears.  Most things R200 can be moved from diff to diff, but there are an annoying number of cases where they don't.  There are 2 sizes of crownwheel bolts, for example.

    • Hey, like MBS206 mentioned; I dropped off my short block and rotating assembly Monday. With a quick verification, he believes he can clear it up with just a hone and new rings but he will confirm once the rotating assembly is out. If I were you, I would either go stroker or just replace the block if it does need to be bored over to next size. Block is cheaper then forged pistons.
    • live in the UK, and London has introduced a Low Emission Zone (LEZ) that requires individuals to pay £13 if their car doesn’t meet the required emissions standards.   The standard specifies that NOx emissions must be less than 0.08 g/km (i.e., the vehicle must meet Euro 4 standards or better, which generally results in NOx levels of around 0.08 grams per kilometer).   I reached out to Nissan UK, and they advised me to contact Nissan Japan directly. Does anyone have contact details for Nissan Japan or any certifications of conformity that show the emission details or NOx levels for the RB25DET engine?   Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
    • these guys recommended to me and supplied custom 4 inch mufflers, couldn't be happier. They will spec a muffler to your preferred level of sound and know RB's well.  https://spmufflers.com.au/
    • Yeah this used to happen to me every year and a quick call would at least raise the agreed value back up / reduce the premium, but usually both.    That said for the first time on the renewal this year our agreed values went up or stayed the same over the fleet and the premium came down so that was a nice surprise.
    • I don't even go that hard core. I just say "how do you expect me to stay, when you increase my premium, and reduce the value of the car?"   Then play a game of shut the f**k up. Most of the time it's a computer that did the adjustment, and the people will happily change it around for you.
