Guys,

Is there a problem with oil getting into the AFM?

I have been told that it will ruin the AFM after prolonged use.

Is this true?

Yes after prolonged use it will go into the AFM but nothing a little contact cleaner and a steady hand can't fix. Dont want to kill the post but i have done signifigane dyno testing with air box's and found that a partition box with the air still accessible from the top is better than a completley enclose pod. The new Apexi filter is a non oil based filter and uses surrounding air from all area's. The Unifilter are a great product and i have used one in the past and the kit price is very well priced. But can i ask one question, why dont all you people who want a box make you own? It takes about 30 mins and cost ya about $20 :(

yeah no doubt some people are cable of making their own shield, this is a great option for people who can't or don't have the time.

The other thing I should mention is that I have seen a lot of cars coming from jp with an old HKS pod or similar. Generally, they either filter really poorly or are well and truely ready for replacement. Support a locally made and engineered product instead ;)

Couldn't agree more with you there Duncan, the ram pod should be one of the first things that people replace on there car when they first import it. Clean the AFM completly and then maybe look into using a non oil based filter from there. The Uni filter products are great and the contrstuction is top notch, if your in the market for a new filter guys take advantage of this buy as its a good price and a good product :headspin:

drinkan. can you help me out with a partition/box to suit my pod filter wearing 32GTR? do you still run the stock air box in your improved GTR? if not what are you using? :D

Yeah unfortunately we have to use the standard airbox for Combined Touring and Targa :P.

Just a quick note for those who already have a pod filter... I can get ABS blanks with a 90 deg bend in them... Got one for myself, because I have custom intercooler plumbing. I just need to shape it myself. If there is intrest, PM me. They are about $30 plus P & H. Probably less for group buyy.

A free bump for the Unifilter Rampod induction kits.

I'm importing these into the UK from the good folk in Hornsby. Feedback has been excellent. I'm running one on my own GTSt, and also replacement Unifilter panel filters in my Delica, and Unifilter in my KTM bike.

The oil from these will NOT contaminate the AFM. Unlike some light oils that other filter manufacturers use, the Unifilters are oiled with a tackified foam filter oil. When you re-oil the foam, you squeeze out as much oil as humanly possible leaving only a sticky surface on the foam. Mine has been on my GTSt for ages now and there is absolutely no sign of AFM contamination.

I have found absolutely no noticeable diference in performance between runs with an Apexi dual funnel intake, a Unifilter Rampod induction kit and running with no filter at all (just the Rampod with the foam removed). Throttle response with the Unifilter Rampod and heatshield is noticeably better than when running the standard airbox. I am running 0.95 bar of boost and I suspect that the standard airbox MAY have been a little restrictive as this is well over the standard boost.

The Unifilters will also filter out far more crap than any dry foam filter, metal gauze filter or paper element filter is able to. A dry foam filter will only filter out particles that are larger than the spaces through which air flows in the foam. Metal gauze filter will only filter out particles larger than the holes in the gauze, and the same goes for paper element filter.

By the very nature of foam filters that are oiled with tackified oil, particles down to just a few microns across are filtered out as they cling to the sticky surface of the foam, rather than being drawn through. The majority of aftermarket filters will only filter down to 45 microns. Engine wear is caused by particle sizes as small as 17 microns, and something like a Unifilter will filter down to just a few microns.

Re the heatshield - it's not an enclosed box, but rather a partition that diverts the heat away from the intake, and is open towards the rear of the passenger side headlamp. It will not therefore restrict the intake of air into the pod as the pod remains open to air in all directions - so no worries there.

Final point - I've got to say that the metal construction of the Rampod intake tube is far better than the moulded plastic Jap Crap that nearly everyone for some reason is totally fixated on. It's about time people started to reliase that better stuff can be had from elsewhere other than Japan, and are far more sensible prices. Over here in the UK, the HKS and Blitz stuff is costing in the region of £200 just for the intake. The Unifilter kits, coming halfway around the world, are costing not much more than half of that including the heatshield and all taxes and freight.

Sorry for rambling..........just think you al should think about stuff other than what modified cars have on them when they leave Japan.

Hi Yogi, Unifilter only sell them as full kits, but thats good news since it gives you the chance to change your dirty, poorly filtering jp filter for a quality australian product :O

      If the RB29 box in the car is a push clutch, then yes, you will need to deal with the pull clutch on the turbo box. You either buy a pull clutch and don't use the old one, or you do the things needed to convert the turbo box's clutch arrangement over to push. Which is a bit of a f**karound. "Making" a custom tailshaft is the easy part. But you will need to source the front clip yoke - the bit that goes into the output of the gearbox. These are not as easy to find. They are out there, but they don't grow on trees the way that they used to.

      Indicator bulbs are way too bright to use as a "corner marker" (we call them parking lights too). Sure. Go ahead and do it. But realise that you wil need to come up with all your own wiring to do it, as no-one will have a standard howto worked out for Skylines. It's just a matter of abandoning everything that Nissan have done and starting from scratch. You'd probably be better off retrofitting tailght/brakelight globe bases into the front indicator housings and using the taillight circuit for your corner marker and the brake light as the indicator. You'd need to work out how to kill the marker circuit while the indicator is flashing, otherwise it won't flash on-off, just bright-less bright.

      Hi. A little bit of an update. It maybe(hope not) looks like i would need a new tranny(it would be "maybe" a cheaper or better option anyway) So i need some info. I know i need a different propshaft(i can make custom one) LSD is not a problem cuz the engine will be still(for now) N/A RB20. So if i buy RB25DET NEO tranny...is there something else i need? I read something about push/pull type but i do not know if i need to "change" something or i can just plug n play onto my engine a go? Thanks for the advice

      Good morning all, Bit of a random question but figured I’d finally throw it out after wondering for a long while. Before I start, I'm hoping to do this purely out of personal preference. I think it would look better at night, and don't mind at all spending a few hours and dollars to get it done. I've copied this from a non-Skyline specific forum, so I apologize for the explanation of our headlight switch setup that we all know. Here we go: Zero lights (switch off) Parking lights (switch position 1) being a rectangular marker on the outside of the housing, my low beam being the projector in the centre (position 2), and a high beam triggered by my turn signal stalk. Most North American cars I’ve owned of this era have power to the amber corner (turning indicator) light as part of the first switch (parking lights). I’d love to have these amber corners receive power when the headlights and parking lights are on (headlight switch), yet still blink when using the turn signal which is of course a separate switch. Hopefully I’ve explained my question correctly. Is anyone aware of a way in which I might be able to achieve this? Thanks in advance
