I've been reading up on what I need for an oil cooler. I'll be using 10-AN fittings but I'm getting clashing info on the cooler core size that's required. The two kits I'm looking at are the Hel/Setrab and Mocal, both will include a thermostatic plate.

Hel offer 13,16,19 and 25 row coolers but don't give any recommendations for size for the application

Mocal's listing includes a 10 row. As a rough guide they recommend a 13 row for applications upto 200hp. I'm currently circa 300hp but will be around 400hp by the time I'm finished.

I'll be mounting the cooler in the driver side wheel arch infront of the windscreen washer bottle. I'll be fabricating a duct for the Altia bumper to help with slightly better air flow.

Would it be the case of measuring up what room I have and order accordingly?

Get a 19 Row, 25 becomes a pain in the arse fitting but if you're making decent power and hit the track then 25 is probably more optimal.

I used to run a 19 row Mocal (genuine core not dim sum special) with 370kW+ at Wakefield and after 6 to 8 laps on a 30 degree day oil temps would hit about 110 to 120 degrees.

Conversely, I ran/run a 25row, and yeah the fitting is POSSIBLE (on either side of the car) but it gets into the area of wondering how many of those extra rows are actually getting airflow.

However at the track I would pull an indicator out and see oil temps a little cooler than above, about ~105C, down from 150C without the cooler at the same track in the same conditions.

There will be expletives fitting it though, but it can be done.

Possible with a 25 row, but it does sit low. If I were to come off the track into the sand/gravel trap there's a chance it might hit the ground.

Between the core and the bottom bumper, there's about 2cm of space.
