I have a 350 GT Nissan skyline 2003 import it is running is safe mode, I have had it to one mechanic and his computer told me it was a stepper motor fault can't find one anywhere. took it to a transmission place he had it for a week and gave up stating it stuck in third, it's a lovely car and i would love to put it back on the road but can't get it to drive any ideas

Replacement of the stepper motor in the CVT  will cost a few bucks. Probably only a Nissan dealer will have the scanner that will pinpoint the problem so pay the money for a scan. Then try to find a better auto transmission repair shop for a quote on the repair.

My local shop could do it but its in Auckland NZ.

Here's a motor if you want to have a go yourself( look around on ebay ...some of the ads have the gearbox no so see if you can find the number of your transmission. Obviously they all come freight free from China or you could order through Nissan for much more money (or get a second hand tranny - but a second hand CVT???!!!) :

or you should be able to order it though Nissan for megabucks.

Are you sure that the stepper motor in question is part of the CVT? There are at least 2 other options. Idle control and throttle or traction control.

It could be the tranny's stepper, but if it is, it will be inside it. So....you won't find it without some spanners.

Had it on to computers now only one could connect and it said the stepper motor. I don't know what else to to do the Transmission place in Underwood is I'm told one of the best and he gave up I just thought someone must have had the same thing happen to them so I turned to this forum.  I have had the stepper motor out it's easy in this car but it's back in there so I could move the car.

Fair enough .

Have you had a read of this?

https://gearsmagazine.com/magazine/stop-wasting-money-on-jatco-cvt-stepper-motors/

I assume since you have had the stepper motor out you have changed the (special) cvt fluid and filter.

If you have the energy you could follow this article. test the stepper motor and clean the valve body.

Have you got a price from Nissan for the stepper motor should it be required?

I did speak to Nissan at Northlakes but they didn't have any answers for me they said they had no information on this car it's an import so I started looking around for my self I keep getting told to give up and scrap it but I'd like to see it on road.

    • MR HAMMER has said his piece. Painted up to avoid Rusty Rusty. Actually lines up well. (i.e it lines up the same as the unmolested GTR guard). Turns out the GTR Strut brace does foul on the bonnet vents ever so slightly. May need a little bendy bendy if intended to keep using with a strut brace. So spacing it out to clear the FAST102 is not an option. Annoyingly, the bonnet vents also foul on the heater lines running over the engine. Given this engine does not EVER require a heater, a delete loop is going to be used. Don't worry, the defogger uses the AC. The heater is basically "Do not use the aircon and turn the fan on". It will still be effective, I promise.... once I get the system regassed... Will have to revisit with unvented bonnet I suppose, and suitable strut brace. There's plans to do this and other things tonight and bleed brakes (there was a weep) and put the bumper back on, and take Good Friday morning - Because troubleshooting on the side of the road limping it home at midnight tonight is ... not very smart.
    • Thank you all for you assistance. I contacted Nistune regarding the support for the RB20DE along with my ECU Code (23710-10U00). They do have a map for it and added the RB20DE as a purchasable option now as well. They also added Malta as a Billing and Delivery options as this was missing. I was honestly amazed at their quick response and action, it took less than 24 hours. I also looked again at direct fit options for injectors, just in case I were to replace them. DeatschWerks seem to use a Bosch EV14 base and makes ones that fit mine at 440cc lowest, but also have 550cc at the same price. I tried looking for other direct fit options and managed to find one (also Bosch EV14 based) which includes a plug and play adapter on ebay. Did a small test with a Noid Light on the troubled injectors and all seems good, so they are pulsing properly electrically. One weird part is that they are missing on the same two cylinders as before I got the injectors cleaned. Mechanic also found this weird as he did not label the injectors and it is unlikely to have the faulty injectors be installed in the same cylinders.
    • Nice, let me know how you find the 98 tune
    • Put a hand on an injector and see if that's what the buzzing is. You might be triggering the injectors by moving off idle command.
