Alot of talk about gtst skylines is that they are very average from factory, so what exactly are they like when modified? For example with good coilovers, swaybars, diff, semi slicks etc how would they compare in performance to an Evo for example? Can they corner just as good or is AYC a major advantage they are missing? Can they corner good with softer springs? (the need to squat to put power down) With good tires what is the upper level of power you could use before you start running into traction issues in second gear etc

I realise GTRs are a whole different animal but just how good can the gtst get around?

What's AYC? GTSTs are probably older than you are so to make them competitive with an Evo will require the expenditure of loads of cash. As my local workshop guy says "anything is possible if you have the will, the time, and the money".

AYC is the bit that serious EVO owners disable by fitting an RS diff anyway, for the same reasons that serious GTSt owners completely disable HICAS. It f**ks with the purity.

R32 GTSt is a very capable vehicle..... after an engine transplant. 2L is not big enough for a 6 cylinder. No torque off boost. None at all. Bang in an RB25 (or anything bigger than that) in, with suitable gearbox. Add mechanical diff of some sort, bigger brakes (if planning on beating on them hard) proper suspension (springs and dampers or $3k+ worth of coilovers), change out almost every bush for a suitable selection of urethane, spherical steel. Delete HICAS. Fix the front upper arm problem. Add frontmount, fuel system, probably ignition if staying with a Nissan motor. Upgrade engine management. Better seats, better headlights. The really serious will then move on to replacing the rear subframe with an S14 or similar, to improve the geometry.

The list goes on.

Have driven some decent skylines.

Have driven some decent evos.

I own a skyline. I don't own an evo.

Dollar for dollar, I wouldn't be surprised if the evo was quicker. But I find the skyline a lot more fun and rewarding.

plus one for the sun roof! I love my gtr but I daily drive a gts and love cracking the sun roof on nice day.. keeps kilomoteres off my gtr and is fairly easy to maintain. what ever you get stay away from the rb20 its gutless, I can also ad my buddy owns a gts-t that has 500whp and walks all over my GTR on the straight (handles just as good as my gtr as good as I can tell minus the awd pull out of corner). anything can be an animal with the right amount of money and time
