Hi,

My son has a Mitsubishi L 300 van Automatic. A Gates sticker on the engine says the timing belt was replaced in 2008 @199,200km . He bought it a year ago and has only clocked 229,000 on the odometer. A mechanic has recommended replacing the timing belt. Are timing belts worn with age or number of kilometres? The quote is approximately $1300 to do the work which is a lot. If the belt has only done 30000 km does it really need replacing? Any experienced  auto enthusiasts have any thoughts?

Cheers

Glen
