I'll tentatively agree with the regional argument.

There's no meeting of points in the following argument:

(QLD guy) "Optimax is more responsive and has better fuel economy here"

(Vic guy) "No, BP Ultimate is more responsive and has better fuel economy"

i have not used Shell Obtimax yet but i did my own lil test and found out that i get more Mileage from BP premium rather then BP ultimate

i have no idea why.

Sorry to bring this up again

but did any of you watch Current Affair this week where they did the petrol test

they tested the different petrol’s and found the same with my above quote!

ive only ever put bp ulitmate in my car, i reckon it runs good on it... although i havnt tested every fuel available so i couldnt really say, tryed vortex once coz i couldnt find a bp, didnt seem to be much difference in response at all.

sydneykid: how do you know which state has what refineries and how many there are? do you work for a fuel company or something? not having a go, just curious to know.

Here in VIC, my PowerFC knock only shows 10 on Shell Optimax.

give bp premium a go you will be surprised

Give Expensomax a go, you'll 'also' be surprised!!

Just ran another tank of Ultishit through the line after 6 weeks (thought I'd be surprised), well, nup!! Low economy and less pull in second and 3rd. Back to expensomax, after 2 fills, all is good again. (not surprised at this either).

How could the graph be soooooo one sided, ...I mean this forum contains mostly keen and smart drivers, so I guess the general populus must know what they're on about!! Would've thought maybe a 60-40 for Ultra crap, not the current trend though!! Emeeeysink!!

Expensomax? Don't you use the dockets? You might wanna start calling it Fourcentoffmax... or Cheapomax (not that they're so cheap) ;)

I think it all depends which servo you're filling in. Based on what effect I felt

on car performance after I refill:

BP on Heidelberg Rd has better fuel than the nearby Shell on the same road,

Shell on Bell St Preston has better fuel than this Heidelberg Shell,

Mobil in Racecourse Rd feels better than the Mobil in Coburg's Bell St, and

and the BP & Shell in Sunbury feels both has equal quality.

Yo not to take a stab at u,but you say that you are to cool for a docket,so you would rather rip yourself off then save $2.

What happens when you are on your 25th tank im sure it would save you a few tanks worth in a line per yr.Especially if your foot had lead in it.

Obviously you dont do the shopping.

Cant see why i would want take 1.why are u offering to do it for me.

If premium were better to use we would all be using it.But we dont.I think it's just a price thing.Bang 4 buck thing.Somthing 1 would get their car tuned on if they were peterol price concious.:pimp:

yo, who's the 'cool' one bro's!!??

I don't do my shopping at the relevant brand shops to get the dockets to get the $2.00(????) off the expensomax!! Did u consider that, yo?

I'm no lead foot, I get more value that way than the crappy few cents redeemed on a docket!! (but hey, each to their own way of doing their financials!!)

Obviously also not considered?

Also, where did I state that I "was too cool"?

NB. notice the 'too' is correctly used in this sentence?

And, what does happen on my '25th tank', yo?

Not taking a stab bro's, but feck dat!! :( and have a great day!

    • There is a LOT of stuff that can be done, it all depends on how much time and money you want to spend on doing in.  Not all ECUs will be able to do it, and the more control you need the more time and knowledge needs to be put into making it work.  If you're willing to spend the time and money and have the right hardware and skills involved there's a lot that can be done.
    • I am impressed with all this level of adjustment. I didn't expect all this possibility
    • Correct.  In the case of the 500kw dyno plot I showed you the car actually runs two boost control solenoids for boost control and a 5psi wastegate spring.  It allows me to control how much boost pressure is applied to both sides of the wastegate valve at any point and fairly accurately control boost target as a result. I've tuned it so that it's able to target anywhere from 5psi to 25psi depending on what's needed.  The target tables I've set up in that car are Gear vs RPM, so every gear has potential for a different boost (and torque) curve.   First and second gear have quite low boost targets, third gear actually has different target boost all the way through the rpm range as it's a stock RB25 gearbox - the boost targets have been chosen to maintain a peak of 600nm (what the owner has set as the maximum torque he's happy with putting through the stock 3rd gear) but it carries that to the rev limiter.   The boost curve to achieve that is something of a ramp up, then hold, then ramp up again and the power curve looks more like a flat line haha.
    • so you can decrease or increase the boost depending on the diet as you wish?     by acting on the wastegate?
    • That's torque and power, it's all from a single run.  The boost curve is "held back" from it's peak target in the 3500rpm to 5000rpm range from memory, so it ramps hard to something like 18psi then climbs more progressively to 23psi nearer 5000rpm.   It makes the torque (and power) ramp more "natural" and less hard on parts and traction, it doesn't feel artificially held back.
