Hey, I have a 94 r33 gtst manual skyline. My brother has just bought a VN ss. ive raced him and kicked his ass, but only when we were rolling at 20kmph. his is an auto its got the usuall mods like exhaust and extractors. So how do i take off so that i kick his ass, i know that if i get a good start, all he will see is my nice big round tail lights, but if i stuff up than ill have to chase him down, which i know isnt a problem i just wanna smoke him at the lights, cos hes a commonhore lover and skyline hater. Can anyone help? do i just drop the clutch at say 2200 rpm, or is there some other way. Please help?

Practice, and some more practice. Launching a manual is more involved than an auto and probably less consistant until you have it down pat.

I would be dropping the clutch at more than 2200. Depends on clutch, tyres, surface etc.

Get down to a track and line him up and you'll see who passes the line first.

don't both racing commonhore's they are worth the petrol and wear on the car, having said that if you car dead keen to smoke him dropping it from about 4,500rpm should get it right in the rev range off the line.

I'm not to sure if you'd be able to beat him off the line entirely the VN's are 3.8L V6's and have a fair bit down low espescially considering it's auto it'll take off pretty fast.

IMO dropping the clutch is the worst thing you can do for a good launch.

I used to slip and ride my clutch off the line from about 3200rpm-ish... it got me moving smoothly and at the same time was building boost. HOWEVER its a real bitch on your clutch and will wear it out if you are constantly doing that.

Dropping the clutch in a RWD car will either bog down or wheel spin

my experience and opinion only.

Its a VN ss so its a V8, And ive done a little bit of practise and found that if i drop the clutch any higher than say 3,000rpm it just frys the tyres big time, its only got a cat back exhaust a pod filter and a 2800ft pound pressure plate and standard clutch. So i think 4500rpm will just be way too much wheel spin, somtimes even when i drop it at like 2800 rpm it has heaps of wheel spin. so what do i try, i really wanna smoke his VN V8 off the line, and show him that skylines are shit. any help would be much appreciated

4,500rpm should get it right in the rev range off the line.

yea seems a little high i havent really been pracing but my gts-t is bone stock and i found slipping it alittle from around the 3k mark still lit the back tires up for a second or two then traction was back and i was on my way :cheers: (ps take it to the track much safer ;))

I personally reckon it's not worth racing your beautiful piece of art and craftsmanship, they are good cars, if you take car of them it will be much better off in the long run. The skyline engines like to rev so rev them don't drop the clutch on em.

Personally I reckon automatics will be able to bet a manuals off the line.

I used to own an R31 Skyline, it was auto, i'd put my foot on the break and rev it to 3,000rpm then let go and it would take everything off including new monaros and skylines the line but never could beat all wheel drive cars, just had to much traction off the line.

    • It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement. The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z. This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris' The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.
    • Yeah - My key still does the chime thing. I followed the procedure but it didn't activate on the (identical) third set of keyfob that I had. I vaguely remember the alarm saying you can only pair two keys with it. Now that I've dug it up, it appears that you very much can pair keyfobs to the alarm system. (which are the fobs I use to unlock the car). I have successfully diverted the thread and can probably not use the OEM keyfob ever again unless I use the aftermarket alarm and attempt to pair the OEM keyfob to it. Which might just work, or not :D. I definitely used the nissan method and not the aftermarket alarm method.
    • What makes it worse is that Nissan made keys in the same style, for example R34 and Stagea, but they work at different frequencies or something like that. So they look the same but the remotes are not interchangeable. I learned that from some guy selling aftermarket blank keys.
    • Does your door chime work when you have the key in the lock and open the door? I've had that disabled because it's f**king annoying and it is one thing that messes with the pairing. Because now the car doesn't detect key in ignition anymore and the slide-key-in-and-out sequence does not trigger the pairing mode anymore. The service manual has a section on the various bits involved in doing the syncing. I presume it'll be similar between Stagea and R34.
    • Agree, but meh, I think is is based more on LOLS than actually apples to apples, like, who would have thunk a turbo 4 cylinder would not beat a NA 4 cylinder  I think with just basic N/A mods, like a exhaust and tune, it would be equal to the Mini in its current form, maybe I know my current 2.5 would "chop the mini" as the midrange now has a night and day difference in power delivery compared to the tuned 2.0, by around 20kwatw and 30nm from around 2k rpm "ish"....... I'm kinda hoping that they do a N/A build, either with the MZR 2.0 or with whatever they decide to use If I recall correctly they did talk about K swapping one a while ago
