So while we're going mad trying to get the white 32 happening I also noticed something quite shit on this car - felt what appeared to be an exhaust leak at the turbo. Thought I better pull the turbo off and found this...

Not only was the T4 gasket blown, but the rear 2 high tensile GCG studs were bent as. Looks like the high tensile M10 x 1.5 / 1.5mm studs and 3 layer stainless T4 gasket couldn't handle the heat, so in went new custom ECS inconel M10 studs with 1.5mm thread on manifold side and 1.25mm on turbo side with copper lock nuts. Also upgraded to 5 layer stainless divided T4 gasket and changed the damaged compressor housing o ring with a genuine new Precision item. Also pulled 44micron oil feed filter apart for inspection - not a spec of metal to be found.

I must say the 6466 Precision is looking pretty good overall though and is very much like new. No evidence of any oil passing, even with peak oil pressure of over 120psi with no oil reg and correctly sized oil drain. As we are fitting a turbo oil reg to the other 32 I might go down that path eventually just as a precaution, but so far has proven not to be a necessity.

Seems like a weird failure.

How is the turbo attached the the exhaust, and how is well supported is the front of the exhaust/ do you have a flex section in the front or dump section? I'd be looking for either a hit on the exhaust being absorbed by the turbo, or the exhaust just putting too much weight on it

Not really that strange. T4 divided are especially harsh on gaskets with decent power at 800 - 900c degree EGT. I noticed @Full-Race Geoffhas inconel 5 layer T4 divided gaskets that I'd love to run that no one else seems to stock, but the shipping price was ridiculous to Oz. Admittedly when reinstalling with the 60mm inconel 1.5mm flange / 1.25mm turbo side custom M10 ECS studs I did loosen everything off as I noticed the front pipe to turbo v band definitely was misaligned about 5mm downward on the front pipe, which wouldn't have helped with non inconel studs warping.

Loosened it all off and got it spot on so no downward pressure was on the turbo from front pipe, so fingers crossed with no more issues or else the inconel gaskets will have to he used as a last resort.

I tell you what though - I absolutely HATE Precision T4 turbos ! They perform well, but coming from an HKS T51 with 99mm v band inlet on manifold these turbos suck to remove and install, as the 6466 compressor housing needs to be taken off before you can unbolt the T4 flange. Total pain in the arse and the white 32 with the 6266 is exactly the same, so that's my only complaint with twin scroll T4 Precision 6266 / 6466 turbos, as otherwise have found them completely reliable and awesome at what they do. If I did it again I'd 100% go a Precision stainless steel v band exhaust housing inlet purely for ease of working on them.

Anyway car is back together, on E85 and even give it a wash between working on the white 32 GT-R and white 33 GT-R. Car #2 for 2022 RCN08 festival is ready to rock 🤟

Motorkhana with over 600kw at 30+ psi is going to be interesting....🤣 Still need to get my 9sec timeslip one day too if I can drive it properly, as it is proven capable of over 140mph.

Adding more attention to detail, I addressed an issue on both 32s that's been pissing me off for a while now - the correct front left inner driveshaft bolt arrangement. I guarantee most GTRs around have the incorrect bolt, as up until now most I've seen have an M8 bolt shoved in there with 12mm heads / nuts. Now being the OCD type of person I am, I was determined to get the CORRECT grade and design bolt to make sure there is no chance of movement there.

The correct bolt is supposed to be a 12mm head, with a 10mm shoulder and 8mm thread with M8 nuts / 12mm head. Because of the clearance in the shaft area no you can't just use a more common M10 bolt and nuts with 14mm head as it just won't fit down there.

Finding this has been painful, and will illustrate my point about Nissan FAST not updating their suppression chain for superseded part numbers correctly.

According to Nissan fast, 32 GTR part number is 39606-56S00. As you can see, out of production with no replacement listed.

Screenshot_20220822-223509_Chrome.thumb.jpg.f4df51193202d49e36e474a2c6a77c1c.jpg

Ok cool, let's check R33 GTR. BCNR33 part is listed as same part number in Amayama, so discontinued and no replacement. RHDjapan interestingly though lists a replacement for superceded 39606-56S00 as 39606-5690A. Cool, also conveniently not available.

Screenshot_20220822-224313_Chrome.thumb.jpg.df1122ab00b31414a40adfd9a4f6516a.jpg

Now starting to get more annoyed I double check JP car parts, as I have found them to be far superior with availability, reliability and are 1000% faster than Amayama ever is. It lists as available when RHDjapan and Amayama list as discontinued ?! Strange....

Anyway $60 and 2 weeks later from Osaka for 6 bolts finally I have them, but they arrive with a completely different number again, 39606-56S0A which is not cross referenced in Nissan fast for RB26 at all. Out of interest I checked RHDjapan just for a cross reference with the 3rd number, punch it in and it comes up - WTF ?!

Screenshot_20220822-230317_Chrome.thumb.jpg.3ca54b51643fd3c8c50ba6a08155c2f6.jpg

Forget Amayama, no deliveries to Australia- WTF ?

Screenshot_20220822-230635_Chrome.thumb.jpg.a9e0a51a130f6084052a6d2c8f7e908a.jpg

Now if youve followed all of this, it is just one example of how shit Nissan fast parts referencing has become and how unreliable Amayama can be as a reference point. After my last couple of dealings with them I absolutely refuse to use them anymore as waiting 3 - 6 months for parts is just unacceptable, and they just don't cross reference properly.

I can't believe what a headfk a seemingly easy part to get turned into a nightmare - it's 6 bolts FFS.

The parts in question fitted:

I am now on 2 weeks off to finish setting up all 3 cars for the race meeting on the 1 - 4th September. Next on the list is to have a look at the launch control settings in the Haltech.

You should write a book about bolts!  It would be an epic saga!  I used to use Amayama a lot but did notice how slow the last delivery was.  Took months!

I presume there's no pump E85 up there?  I think we might finally have it in Shepp.  not that I've needed to trouble them yet...

Make sure you get someone to take some videos of you thrashing them in the events.  Be nice to see a GT-R getting used!

Yeah epic headf**k for 6 bolts ! No pump E85 here - closest is Adelaide or Darwin so I have to drum it up.

Definitely try and get some videos. My nephew took heaps last year but I don't have them as I think they all ended up on Facebook. I am determined to have all 3 there in action next weekend.

Fingers crossed 🤞

Ha yeah the bolt supersession is a pain. Happily I've pull apart enough cars to have original driveshaft bolts

spacer.png

But I went to get a set of genuine engine/gearbox bolts and had a similar stuff around. I think it relates to the original bolts being cadmium coated and everything zinc now.

spacer.png

This is the current part numbers for the engine/gearbox bolts, a couple of them are UD truck not nissan.

Yep same with the gearbox. Kudos actually sell a complete bellhousing kit which also went onto this car. Yes I see the Amayama packaging. Careful with their supposed UD "equivalent", as I have got some that were not even close to what they were supposed to be.

Also just picked up some BP ultimate to give it a bit of a flush tomorrow for a couple of hundred k before I switch back to racefuels control E85 for next weekend.

I'll be on E85 same tune for the drags and motorkhana, so I guess the question for motorkhana is do I run the full tilt E85 33psi 611kw or knock it back to 22psi ? 21psi on 98 with the 33 is a handful with 330kw on the twistes so I can only imagine what 600kw + will be like. 😆

You absolutely send it on high boost. It will be the same lag no matter what the peak boost, and more fun when it goes whoosh

Exactly what I was thinking. 👍

Throttle control is everything and the car only goes as fast as your right foot right ?

Ok the cars will be set on:

Blue 32 - 6466, E85, 33psi, 265/35R18 RS4

White 33 - twin GT-SS, 98, 21psi, 265/35R18 AD08R

White 32 - 6466, 98, 15 - 20psi, 245/45R17 RS4

I've got a feeling the AD08R will come out on top and make all the difference.

I can’t wait to see what the blue one runs when it finally gets a clean run,

Me too - I am clearly not cut of for drag racing am I...

Was hoping to get some good runs as with at least 139mph and a good 60ft there is definitely a 9 in it, but to this point I still haven't been able to put it all together to beat the previous 2.6 HKS T51 time of 10.5 at 130mph.

Now I mentioned a "problem" that happened at the last drags which I "fixed" for the Motorkhana.

I'll just leave this here:

This is the turbo compressor outlet elbow, I guess it didn't like 33psi boost 🤣

Yes I am a dickhead sometimes 🙃

Garden hoses and worm clamps do not belong in cars of this build.

clamps and alloy pipes… period.

Mate, I know, I know !

I've always had a cast elbow welded onto the compressor housing, but when switching to the 6466 I decided not to and use a silicone elbow just in case the turbo shits itself, which means an off the shelf, no mods required replacement could be easily swapped in. Funny enough that's what happened to the white 32 with the 6266, and why a 4 day turn around swap to the 6466 happened.

Don't worry, I still owe you a carton of Coopers sparkling when I'm in Sydney next month - you can give me shit about it then👍

Nice effort, that’ll definitely slow the car down a little bit!! I’m sure some gorilla glue would see that ready to go again lol

Hey Brett, I scrambled to Supershit to see what they had and got a 3" to 2.5" elbow to fix it. Was a prick to get on, requiring heating and shit as the 6466 is a 2.5" compressor outlet, but my existing Jap intercooler piping is 80mm so 3 1/8". 4mm doesn't sound like a lot but took about an hour and a half to fit stretching 76mm onto 80mm.

This is what let go top of 3rd when I rolled through for an 11.51 at 130mph in 4th !

Funny story though, for shits and giggles I took the GTR out for a run with the split pipe in naturally aspirated RB26 mode. For those wondering, an N/A RB26 R32 GTR does 15.9 at 90mph 😆

I know the pain of making a 3in hose fit over an 80mm pipe, I have a Japanese pipe kit on mine and just made a new pipe to replace the turbo engine side one. It’s worked really well so far. IF it starts failing I’ll look to replace it after that
