Hey all

Im in the market now for a R35 GTR

Ive been looking around at the ones in the 2009 era.

What conman things should i look out for?

What problems can i get checked?

I would most probably take it to my tuner to run his eye over to

I think pre 2011 maybe 2010 had some sort of gearbox issue. If its an 09 or early 10 you'd want to know that has been rectified. I assume if you google about it, there should be lots of info as well as merica sue someone, class action, save the kids type posts.

If i was you id be stretching as far as i could to get the newest model with the lowest km as possible. A bloke i worked with had an 09 and its not a case of if but when the gearbox plays up. His went with under 20k km on the clock. He then bought a 12 and now has an 18, both had no issues.

I'd second this. My old man was looking at one years ago and I remember from my research that you'd at least want an MY10 or plus to avoid the early gearbox issue. If you can stretch the budget, try for as new as possible with best service history.

i went through this same process just recently, unless you find one that's below $75k, i am not sure if it's actually cost effective. there was a decent 09 car that went in 2 days, had all the transmission fixes done, full bolts and tune which is about 650awhp, otherwise i am finding that the facelift model (MY11+) are about the same cost as getting an 09 with low KM but ends up same as an MY11 due to requiring all the fixes to be done.

I ended up getting an MY12.

Agree with phillay, if you can find an 09 with all the mods done for a good price, go for it . Otherwise 11 or later when Nissan did the inevitable upgrade. Not sure about the psychology of 35 owners/sellers. Have the pleasure/privilege of running a 32, 34, 35, twin turbo350 and a JDM S15, among others. Always under pressure due space, rego and insurance etc, but when it comes down to it, there is simply no better car to get behind the wheel of. Just a fricking awesome car to drive, and always brings a smile when I touch that start button and hear that rumble! It would be the last to go.
