DashyyPC
Doesnt mean its the headgasket though. Just means air has gotten in at some stage, Loose/Worn radiator cap seal etc Sure headgasket is the most common here but doesnt 100% mean it is. GTofuS-T
so coolant has been changed recently and now it's got bubbles... perhaps it wasn't bled properly? i though headgasket results in oil/water mix not bubbles? Just air bubbles? Have you considered that maybe you just have air trapped in your coolant and not a blown head gasket? xmanz
i took it to a reputable mechanic who pressure tested the system and his advice was the next stage put air compessed into cylinders which will tell the truth i guess Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/479795-am-i-unlucky/#findComment-7925105 Share on other sites
GTSBoy
No, the next step is to use a coolant tester to find out if there is CO2 dissolved in the coolant, forming acid, which tends to be proof positive of a blown headgasket blowing combustion products into the coolant. 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/479795-am-i-unlucky/#findComment-7925110 Share on other sites
The Max
Agreed. If there are no obvious signs of oil mixing in with the coolant, the coolant itself needs testing first. It'll be a lot easier than what your mechanic is proposing. He's jumping the gun a bit there. Well, yeah, most of it - certainly at least the top part. The VQs are chain driven, yes? But pulling timing covers off is not the difference between affordable and not. Take radiator out? Quite possibly. But that's not expensive work. Neither is removing the timing covers. That's what I meant when I said "But pulling timing covers off is not the difference between affordable and not". If it adds an hour to the job it's an extra hundred buck or so, right? Not an extra $500. Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/479795-am-i-unlucky/#findComment-7926393 Share on other sites

370 GTS
When it is all fixed I would have the rad fan checked (I would think they are a clutch fan) blow a head gasket in our D.Max at 130K and five years old. Don,t rely on your temp guage I ran a scanguage 11 in our Isuzus and that how I seen the temp rise, nothing showed this on the vehicles temp guage.
