The thing that put me off the varex thing is you obviously sacrifice your ODB2 port for it. I don't doubt that someone smart with a Haltech/Motec/ExpensiveECU could mimic the behaviour by sending X volts when Engine parameters = ABCD which would then activate the stepper motor...

Why is it sacrificing an OBD2 port?
Just get an OBD2 Y Cable.
It can leave a factory looking OBD2 port where it normally would be, and leave an OBD2 cable plugged in elsewhere.

Secondly, you can splice into the CANBus cables if you want to.

There are also some low cost options out there that can listen to CAN signals, and then trigger IO ports that you wire to. The Ford guys use these a lot. One of them can also do it the other way of you flick a switch, and it'll send specific CAN messages. Lets the Ford guys do things like get all the dashboard, and light integrations working properly.

The only time it will be closed is at home, for start ups and returning late at night, or, if pulled over by the constabulary for breath tests and stuff

 

So no need for anything fancy, just easy and reliable, fully open or fully closed

 

The neighbours have a new baby, I don't want to be "that neighbour" leaving for work, or coming home late

Got the 4" Varex fitted. Nice and quiet closed for keeping neighbours happy early morning and late at night, nice and loudish open to keep me happy, basically has the same sound open thru the rev range as the old 4" it replaced. Put the momentary switch on the cover for the interior fuse box cover, nice and easy to get to. Mark is happy

The suspension is set to stock FE2 height and so far hasn't scrapped on anything since the 4" system was fitted, and the car has seen all sorts of speed humps and steep driveways

Stuck in 6 ltrs of fresh HPR5 and a filter, then cleaned up all my tool boxes.....and found the new door strikers I grabbed a while ago, so I fitted them up, remembering to do one bolt at a time so the bracket inside didn't end up lost in the sills to rattle around forever and make Mark sad, no more door clunks going over bumps is noice, it's basically a new luxury car now 😂

Took the car to Supecheap to get some bissell carpet cleaner liquid stuff for my.......ummm, bissell carpet cleaner, I'm going to do the interior again this weekend and the little bissell works a treat cleaning carpet, seats and trims, I did the usual walk around for "random" "stuff" and saw that Penrite 20w 40 full synthetic 6 litres was on sale for $48, bargain (nearly half price), the LS1 in the VX loves that 5hit every 5k km, so the car got enough new blood and oil filters for the next 2 oil changes, which are still 4500 km away.

Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance 

I also grabbed 4 litres of Penrite MC 4ST V Twin 20w50 (again on special) for the engine, and a new filter, the engine and new filter only takes just on 3 litres, but, I have put on that air to oil cooler with adds about 0.5 litres to the fillI, I also got a litre of Penrite 80w140 Pro Gear for the transmission.

I've still got about 1 litre of Screaming Eagle SYN 3 20w50 that I will stick in the primary.

The bike will have its 3 holes filled 🤣

Checked the wear markers on the R888R and found they were getting close, maybe another 2-3k km or so, so went shopping, I decided not to go the R888R again as I only got them to help at the drags, but they weren't really much better than the RS4's at the strip, the drag radials though are ace as expected

I was able to find some RS4 255/40 17 that were in stock to throw on the rear, but unfortunately there is no RS4 235/45 17 in stock anywhere in......Australia, so I got them to put me down for a pair when they arrive, they said it could be a month or two at least before they get any into Australia....bugger

So, they got wrapped in shrink wrap and stored next to the drag radials with are also wrapped in shrink wrap waiting patiently for their next outing

The daughter has purchased a new Kia Cerento GT hatch, delivery is in August, sooooo, in August I am getting back the little Yaris YRS for a daily hack, it is the "big block" 1.5 ltr engine with the 4 speed auto, so you know it is.......slow as 10 slow things.

But it is a clean and well maintained little thing, that uses alot less fuel than both the Dunnydoore and the Harley for local trips.

Plus, leaving it parked at the local shopping centre will be alot less stressful, rain, hail or shine.

Yes, I am already looking for some 2nd hand rims and some lowered coils for it.
