Hi all, 

As part of my IC7 dash saga, I was wondering how to get the park light input signal for the IC7 dash as the R33 doesn't have a dedicated park light on the stock dash. 

When the park lights are turned on, the dash illuminates, can whatever is causing the dash lights to illuminate be used for my IC7 park light input signal?

I've done some googling and found the attached pinout, I was expecting to find everything on a common ground and the illumination to just have a signal/power wire. If I understand what I'm looking at, the dash illumination has both a ground and earth on either connector B 13/19 or connector C 30/25. I am guessing and don't know if either actually do this. 

Should I be picking up my park light signal from somewhere else?

Just probe a dashlight or plug C's pins 5 & 11. It will either be perma-powered and the lightswitch gives it earth, or the power will be at the switch and the globes all have one side direct to earth.

Once you work that out, it's just a matter of how you get the signal to the IC7. If the power is at the switch and there is nothing at the dash unless the switch is on, then it's easy. Just tap off the wire at pin 11. If there is constantly hot power there, then you tap off at pin 5 and you set the IC7 to the inverse behaviour of the voltage seen at pin 5. Dash (IC7) lights on when pin 5 is low, dash (IC7) lights off when pin 5 is high.

BTW you don't really need the park input with the current firmware as the IC7 has an ambient light sensor.

There are about a billion wires behind the dash that have 12v with parkers because all of the dash and console electronics light up when parkers or headlights are on. glove box light, backlighting for switches, head unit etc etc. Any of them are suitable for this.

Sounds good, nice to have those options too. 

I more so want to have the park light input in case in the future I was to use the day / night mode. Not the ambient light adjusting but the full colour change for either day or night. I probably won't use it, but maybe I'll get bored one day and set it up.

    • Sadly I can confirm if you are actually seeking to drift, you will quite easily spin up one wheel. Even if you're going in a straight line. I am not entirely sure of the metrics/terminology here but there's only a certain amount that the helical will actually spin both wheels. I've seen it on video with my own car where two lines of smoke switch over to just one after you really get in to it. Unlike with a clutch diff where you can keep your foot planted until the car regains grip, in my experience with the helical you want to be utilizing traction control allowing LIMITED slip or lifting (partially) when you start to spin up both tyres with a Nissan helical. Which makes them pretty sub optimal for drifting duty. That said... this is probably a helical on numbers alone. Just put the Kazz in

    • Unlikely, as per Greg's post. This is not helical diff behaviour unless one wheel is up off the ground. Shimming what? You don't "shim" a mechanical LSD. Probably not in the sense that you have heard of people "shimming" a diff. And the process that Nissan f**kwits call "shimming" a diff involves super-preloading a VLSD cartridge against the side of the diff to create a friction/wear point (in a place that it wasn't supposed to have one) to make the sloppy, useless, viscous diff into a hybrid viscous/mech abortion. In case it isn't clear, I consider the process to be stupid. Nike.
    • How much does the shifter move when the car is in gear with the engine off? If it is more than about 1cm you need to replace your shifter bush. Your shifts will just get crunchier, not faster, with a short shifter unless you also rebuild the whole box
    • I should video mine, will prob do it tomorrow    Between 1st and 3rd, you could fit another two gears. That is how loose and wobbly it is   horrible:(
