R34 rear bumper red "fog light"

on a  R34 rear bumper the red light on the right, is this light to be on with headlights only? or is it on a separate switch?

or running lights? ultimately, what turns it on and off?

It should logically only come one when the fog lights are turned on, which is always on a separate switch. That's kinda the definition of fog lights.

If your car doesn't have the switch, it likely doesn't have the factory foglight option .

One of my C34 stagea's has a red fog light on the right rear door light cluster, and a clear reversing light on the left. The fog light switch is on the right hand stalk also used for the indicators and the headlights. It has three positions - off - front on - front & rear on.

My other C34 stagea has two clear reversing lights and only front fog lights (in the bumpers),  and the fog light switch is only on/off.

The switch to operate the fog light is on the factory parking/high/low beam stalk on the steering column. A bulb on the dash indicates when fog light is on. 
 

The fog light only works when you have head lights at on position.
