Well i am helping a mate and he had removed the nut And damaged the thread do thinking if sanding few threads so can put the nut back on

Will give it a go. Was suggesting he should buy a concreate breaker And push it out in 2 sec

does bearing or cv not get screwed if hammered?

re nut, some threads at top of the nut are gone but it torques to 210nm which is the recommended torque, leave it or replace?

Soak the splines with penetrene today, tomorrow and the next day. Don't try again until it's had a nice long bath in it.

Do as Duncan says ref the nut and LARGE hammer. You want mass, not speed. ie, air hammer is bad. Use a drift to also protect the nut.

Clean the threads on the shaft with a small file, not sandpaper.

If you have lost threads out of the nut, replace the nut. In which case, do not fear damaging the nut with the hammer.

Use plenty of anti-sieze on the splines when you put it back together. Running them dry is 90% of the cause of the situation this car is in.

I've previously had the remove (grind off) the threads at the end of a driveshaft as they were damaged in an "incident". No issue as long as the nut has full thread when it is tightened down, the threads at the end of the shaft are only really relevant in a situation like this where you want the nut to take the force of un-siezing. But like GTS-Boy said, if you use a drift (36mm impact socket) you will hammer on the nut not the shaft

lol should have mentioned that was a required step :)

glad it is sorted. check the thread on the end and remove any damaged thread if you need to (unless you happen to have  28mm die ow whatever size it is....)
