lol... consider yourself in a beetle and me in my nissan patrol, if we were in a head on colision at low speed what would happen?? i think the 4WD would come out on top literally

thats a pretty selfish idea of safety really.....

*edit* and of course it only works if some ppl have 4wds, what if everyone drove one?

Mitsubishi are just trying to get in on the action, by showing they have an advantage over the Falcon and Commodore. So of course they're gonna use this in their ad if it makes em look good :)

A lot of family car buyers think Ford or Holden are the only choice...they won't even consider a Magna, or other cars like a Camry, Maxima etc..

seen a few top of the range Magnas around (VRX's??) and i actually think they look pretty good for a "family car"!!

it's interesting to see how they are comparing cars in their ads in Aust...here it's just the car itself...with a very catchy music and scenery :)

is there any online streaming video I could download like they have on the makers website here?

Yep they actually have a whole website dedicated to it, go to http://www.grippingdrive.com.au/launch.asp and click on the Interactive TV link. It is the exact ad they show on TV over here :P

I recon the ad's stupid and they should have done an example on a wet track instead of on a dirt road where no family car will ever be going around a corner at over 100km/h. Mitsu trying to make it look like the 4wd magna is similiar to the evo.

The AWD magna is infact slower than the normal RWD magna aswell because of the extra weight of the transfer case and rear drive assembly.

It seems to me as though Mitsubishi noticed how popular the WRX's have been and they where like 'Hey this AWD thing sells cars! but nobody in Australia can afford an evo, so hey lets dump an awd drivetrain into this crap box family car!'

Voila, the awd magna was born.

I don't mind Magnas personally, although i think the new ones are bloody ugly. My dad owns a 200and something Verada and it's a very nice car. Smooth, some good features and a fairly powerful engine. For a family car it's not bad, and dare i say it - i prefer it to almost any Commodore or Falcon (although give me an XR6T...**drools**)

I think the main point of the ad is to say in extreme conditions, this is how well it handles against the competition, so think about how it will handle something simpler like loose gravel. Obviously their not expecting their target audience to be people who will actually be taking the car off road.

That said, i think it's a good ad, and as someone else said, they are just showing the Magna as an alternative to a Ford or Holden.

    • I am currently going this route. I am curious how much horse power you put behind the cut bell housing? Collins was telling me I am going to crack it and bluh bluh bluh. Because I didn’t buy the custom fly wheel from him. I am looking for somewhere around like 500 hp
    • Forgot to mention that these are the before pics when I first got it!
    • Thanks @PranK for the updated member status, much appreciated! 👍🏼 Now, about those pics… Unfortunately I could only find ones that I took in the dark. I was soon to discover that underneath it wasn’t in the best shape, but it was mine and that’s all I cared about at the time 😆
    • Oh, and only having done this task yesterday, I've now driven the car ~60km since, and while it is hard to avoid placebo effect and confirmation bias, I reckon that some annoyances I had with the way the car has been behaving have improved. Which....kinda makes sense, I guess. If the bushes were really stiff and resisting rotation, they would have been contributing to the effective wheel rate. And if it was more so on one side (which it was, because one side was worse than the other) then.... you might imagine that the additional rate would be asymmetric, and potentially even different between compression and rebound. And so... the car has been twitchy at higher speeds - like freeway on ramps. It really shouldn't be. The wheel alignment is good and there are no (other) known problems elsewhere in the suspension. But at 90-100 on a long sweeping ramp, tiny steering wheel motions would make it feel like it wanted to rear steer. Quite nervous. At lower speeds it would heave about in a manner that it didn't use to. Didn't want to put power down, etc etc. Now...seems to behave better. Am going to have to concentrate on the various corners where it has exhibited weirdness, on the rare occasions when I can get a decent run at them without Methanial getting in the way in his D-Max/Ranger/LDV Van/etc.
