Are the re-appearance of the famous Nismo key blanks genuine? or copies?

Recommended Posts

I've noticed recently a whole bunch of the famous Nismo metal key blanks appearing on eBay and also on the Kudos website...

These keys in years past used to sell for several hundred dollars USD, but are going for $70-80 now 🤔

Does anyone know if these are genuine? Good reproductions? Old stock that someone has discovered? Or has Nismo has started making them again?

Hoping someone might know :)
Cheers

If Kudos Motorsport has them I'd think they'd be genuine Nismo - they don't sell crap or knockoffs. Neither does CJmotor on Ebay. What is confusing is the price at $66 from Kudos and $79 from Jacky at CJmotor. Very strange, as it appears to be genuine as the original "Nismo Design Key" is infact part number KEY01-RN008.

For comparison, the definitely known to be genuine BCNR33 GTR keys are $99, but that R33 GTR key is now part of the Nismo Heritage program, part KEY00-RHR30 to replace existing genuine Nissan part KEY00-00185 which is why they've gone from about $50 up to $99.

Check RHDjapan. If it's aftermarket and available, they 99% of the time have it listed on their site. This Nismo logo key is not listed on RHDjapan and is definitely not listed in the 2020 Nismo catalogue.

I think a call to Andrew at Kudos or Jacky at CJmotor is the only way you'll get an explanation

I'm inclined to agree here

I contacted Andrew at Kudos and he confirmed these are just good quality reproductions. I guess the question then is, can a difference be seen between a genuine and a reproduction? I might have to purchase one of the reproductions and then compare it with a genuine blank that I have.

I bought one. Been really needing a spare key.

They are heavy, likely a low grade steel and coated. I am the worst at metals though so don't trust my judgement.

I do expect the coating will degrade over time otherwise seems very solid.

Will post a pic once i get it cut.

I guess the question is who gives a shit ? Key that turns car on is enough really. The genuine GTR keys also degrade over time too.
