R33 a/c

Hi, Doing some fault finding on my 33. I've had issues with my a/c not working it did a few years ago.. I've decided to dive back in and get this sorted. I've looked at all the similar issues posted here and have tried everything I can think of yet no go. But. I can't remember if pressing the a/c button on the climate control would turn it on? Only pressing the auto button will turn the climate control unit on showing a/c then I have to lower the fan speed.. (no compressor kick in) Can someone please let me know of pressing the a/c button will turn it on also?

With the unit turned off:

1. Pressing A/C button does nothing.
2. Pressing fan button turns on fan, along with A/C if it was on when you turned it off.
3. Pressing mode button powers on the screen and will show you the set temperature and which vents are open, but will not turn on the fan.
4. Pressing demister button turns on the demister with A/C and turns off air recirculate if it was on.
5. Pressing auto button turns on the automatic setting.

Thanks heaps. Think I'm onto something got bad continuity from the a/c fuse to a/c relay on one of the fuse contact points.
