They are only defectable if the cop that pulls you over has nothing else to defect you for.

They are not in your line of sight or will cause you to bang your head on it in an accident as the seat belt tention will kick in before you get close to head butting it, and if you have an airbag the airbag will also kick in.

If they are defectable then every taxi in Australia is defectable as they all have that LCD display communication thing in the same spot, and if you look in a cop car they have a whole heap of shit in that same location!!

yeah insasnt is right, vic roads website says you can guages on the bonnet as long as they are secured and wont come into contact should you hit a pedestrian and they are secured oil/pressure lines etc... but i honestly couldnt see the use of pillar guages

how often would u actually look at it and effectively use it? i really only look at revs and nothing else, of course you would check boost if you had just changed it or fitted something new but how often would u look at it, once its set at 13psi or whatever why would u wanna keep watching it? you floor it, it goes to the max level set by controller (assuming its all working ok) and then it will stay there

just my 2 cents

I trust the oil pressure and temperature gauges.

Only the gtr has a oil temp gauge.

The oil pressure gauge is not very accurate at all, if you ever hook up another oil pressure gauge you will see that the stock gauge is very slow to react and hardly ever moves when oil pressure changes greatly.

I would really worry about it with a stockish line but when your pushing big power 250+rwkw oil temp and prssure are very important to keep an eye on.
