I am very pissed off.

I am now dealing with their Forrestville branch for the first time tomorrow.

The Forrestville branch painted the car this time round.

Overall quality is great this time, just a pitty about the buff.

I wonder which branch did the buff.

Lonsdale or Forrestville.

yeh don't touch the car, just take it to them to do the work, the latest paint job looks a lot better than the last 1, much better peel, don't take it back to that first shop ever again, and hurl bricks through their windows for good measure, this latest problem shouldn't take too long to fix, although u really aren't having much luck with panel shops, what panel shop did u say it was (the first one)? is forrestville insurance company or panel shop?

The paint is pretty good this time. I am happy with it.

Its impossible to get no orange peel but this time around its consistent and standing back it looks perfect.

The close up shots I took before obviously show up peel that cannot be seen under normal circumstances.

Shall have to complain about insurance company paying for taxi rides to inspect work. Mind you, my mom got picked up in a shauffer driven car to collect hers. either RACV or pensioners.

I wouldnt go near a lawyer yet. Unless it is a no win no fee case, it will cost more than $50. First step should be small claims tribunal, but i suggest just being polite to the manager about work.

Hey Joel, if you are up Tea Tree Gully way any time drop on bye and see what a good respray should look like. (got mine back a week ago) It took them nearly 10 weeks, the last 1.5 weeks spent pollishing and aligning panels, but the results are worth it. (no orange peel, no buff marks)

Dont settle for second best, if they couldnt do the job then they shouldnt have acepted it in the first place.

I will take you up on that offer 4door. :)

Can you drop me a PM?

I got the couple of white bits buffed out today.

They also buffed up the front bumper.

It looks good now but I can still see the odd little bit of white on certian bits.

All it needs now is a good buff.

I'm happy with it now.

I need to realign the front lights and rear lights.

I swear the pricks did it on purpose.

One of the rear lights is sunken in too much the other is sticking out 5mm.

Bastards.

When you say that some of the job was insurance and the rest was "private". How much of it was private and how much did the original repsray cost you? Just wondering cause I'm in the same predicament atm. Second time the cars gone back and I'm not happy at all. I'll see how it comes out this time.

I was told that a $2300 "white repsray" was a cheap job? And the orange peel was the different between a cheap and an expensive respray. To me, $2300 aint cheap (with a little ice pearl thrown into the clear coat) job. Seeming we are giving him another go, I won't post pics of how crap it looks just yet. But yeah, just wondering how much it originally cost.

that is fairly cheap, it depends on where u go because some regular panel shops don't like doing resprays, u hav to shop around, $2300, is that to fix all the dents and what not? or just paint?

silver is the hardest to match though, u can never get it perfect, even getting it close is quite hard

Yep silver is the hardest to match & Black is the hardest to spray because every little detail comes up and it takes a good spray painter to get it smoothish, unless you add a clear coat and use multiple layers.

    • Not really, no. Anything you would do is easily reversible.
    • I would like more noise related info for my truly uneducated guess  Does it do it at idle or when revving, clutch engaged, and disengaged? Does it only do it when the car is moving? I've heard "similar" noises from a clutch pack that left the chat room, and CV joints that have chewed themselves out But as Matt said, how's the yokes, tailshaft and centre bearing going after their last little issue Fingers crossed it is something simple  Weird noises make me cringe
    • One other question, is there a chance that changing the idle speed can lead you down a rabbit hole and is the reason the tuner didn't touch it? Reason I ask is because if that's the reason the tuner avoided it then I probably shouldn't be touching it lol.
    • Pfft. As if I'd ever point a high pressure washer at my car.
    • The nature of my commute has changed. Way back then it was traffic lights all the way, for ~28km. It sucked. When they finally stitched the expressway together I could do a good 15+km of it at a steady 80-100 with no stopping. That alone has gotten me down to flat 10s. Prior to that it was mid-high 10s. I can't remember the delta that I saw when I got the idle down. It was only ~150 rpm, because the idle speed was never terrible, but for the delta in consumption to be noticeable it would have had to have been at least 0.2-0.3 L/100km - which is not to be sneezed at when it comes for absolute free. It's only about 50L per year, but that's ~$100. A few extra pizzas is always welcome. Note that I have a record of every tank of fuel that has ever gone through my car except for a handful put in by someone else, like my mechanic. I can show you the difference between stock RB20 and tuned RB20, stock RB5Neo and tuned, winter and summer fuel blends, winter and summer fuel blends when the ambient temperature is not appropriate for the blend, working O2 sensor, blown O2 sensor, boosting f**k out of it and frightened to boost it because it is pinging, and so on. OK, I probably can't do all that now with 100% clarity - but at the time when any of those things were in event, you could see it in the records. There's 25+ years of simple tank after tank records, so you have to look for landmarks to work out approximately how old any single record is. What's really important is the meta data and that lives in my head.
