Basically what the title says, I'm looking to upgrade the brakes on my R34 GTT as the stock ones I have right now are seized. I was looking into a G35 Brembo kit but was just wondering how it would fit in terms of the caliper bolt holes, or if I'd need to modify them in any other way.

I live in Canada so parts are hard to source.

Also, in terms of rotors what would be the best option?

Thanks

Why not just fix the stuck pistons in the 34 calipers?

If you want to avoid doing, you know, basic maintenance work, in favour of upgrading something for the sake of it, then buy an ATTKD or similar aftermarket 6 piston kit with calipers, pads, and rotors, to suit the actual R34, instead of going through all the stress of working out if the caliper offsets and disc hat heights etc etc from the 35 chassis cars will work on your 34?

Or....you know....you could do some searching on here, because the subject of brake upgrades from the 35 chassis cars is not exactly a brand new one. People been putting Z33/4 Brembos on R chassis cars for nearly 2 decades now. There might* even be a comprehensive write up on the subject mentioned many times on this very site.

*definitely.

What I want to do is the CTSV Brake swap. The 6 piston kits are incredible, the pad size is ridiculously bigger than the Attakd/KSport/G4/What have you kits. Plus they are OEM sized, OEM calipers etc.

They make them for many USDM Nissan cars. Some of them are very VERY similar to R33/R34 to the point where one of the conversion kits would likely work with very minor modifications.

Given there are kits for S15 and S15's can quite often use R34/R33 brakes as well, this should be minimal and should work. It's minimal in general by drilling out one bolt hole to be larger diameter which is about as hard as it generally gets.

I have the Alpha Omega Evo caliper adapters, braided lines and Evo 6 Calipers and Evo X rotors (this is on the front only, rears are stock)

Apart from trimming the brake rotor shields, this is completely reversible and pretty straight forward to install - complete bolt on. They work very well, I've done 2 Adelaide Rally's, can't fault them

Wow look at that after a quick google search........

@Dose Pipe Sutututu when you going to get back into doing some articles?

Hmm not too sure, been so lazy and unmotivated to do any car content.

I should though, these days I tend to just post up on IG about the mods & thought process.

Do the rear and front calipers + 324 rotors bolt up directly or just the fronts?

Only fronts.

Rears you will need to cut off the mounting tabs and weld on new ones OR weld on the GKTech ones.

  • 1 month later...

I was considering the 350Z brembos but opted to get the stock ones refurbished and some higher quality pads (Dixcel Z type vs OEM previously) plus slotted rotors - bit of a waste for the rotors but I needed new ones anyway.

Stopping performance is plenty for my track use, in fact it was pretty good anyway on the stock brakes with semi-slicks.

Just on that, great tyres like semi slicks are probably the best upgrade for braking you can do....far less braking needed and you are going faster overall anyway.

i did the alpha omega evo brembo upgrade... well worth it

You mean the Ford FPV R spec 6 pot Brembos with the Evo 10 rotor combo on the front ?

I think I want 🤔

    • For once a good news  It needed to be adjusted by that one nut and it is ok  At least something was easy But thank you very much for help. But a small issue is now(gearbox) that when the car is stationary you can hear "clinking" from gearbox so some of the bearing is 100% not that happy... It goes away once you push clutch so it is 100% gearbox. Just if you know...what that bearing could be? It sounding like "spun bearing" but it is louder.
    • Yeah, that's fine**. But the numbers you came up with are just wrong. Try it for yourself. Put in any voltage from the possible range and see what result you get. You get nonsense. ** When I say "fine", I mean, it's still shit. The very simple linear formula (slope & intercept) is shit for a sensor with a non-linear response. This is the curve, from your data above. Look at the CURVE! It's only really linear between about 30 and 90 °C. And if you used only that range to define a curve, it would be great. But you would go more and more wrong as you went to higher temps. And that is why the slope & intercept found when you use 50 and 150 as the end points is so bad halfway between those points. The real curve is a long way below the linear curve which just zips straight between the end points, like this one. You could probably use the same slope and a lower intercept, to move that straight line down, and spread the error out. But you would 5-10°C off in a lot of places. You'd need to say what temperature range you really wanted to be most right - say, 100 to 130, and plop the line closest to teh real curve in that region, which would make it quite wrong down at the lower temperatures. Let me just say that HPTuners are not being realistic in only allowing for a simple linear curve.
    • I feel I should re-iterate. The above picture is the only option available in the software and the blurb from HP Tuners I quoted earlier is the only way to add data to it and that's the description they offer as to how to figure it out. The only fields available is the blank box after (Input/ ) and the box right before = Output. Those are the only numbers that can be entered.
    • No, your formula is arse backwards. Mine is totally different to yours, and is the one I said was bang on at 50 and 150. I'll put your data into Excel (actually it already is, chart it and fit a linear fit to it, aiming to make it evenly wrong across the whole span. But not now. Other things to do first.
    • God damnit. The only option I actually have in the software is the one that is screenshotted. I am glad that I at least got it right... for those two points. Would it actually change anything if I chose/used 80C and 120C as the two points instead? My brain wants to imagine the formula put into HPtuners would be the same equation, otherwise none of this makes sense to me, unless: 1) The formula you put into VCM Scanner/HPTuners is always linear 2) The two points/input pairs are only arbitrary to choose (as the documentation implies) IF the actual scaling of the sensor is linear. then 3) If the scaling is not linear, the two points you choose matter a great deal, because the formula will draw a line between those two points only.
