Hey guys,

Wondering if anyone has much experience around m35 timing chain replacements.  From what i understand its not something that should need doing unless there has been some significant oil deficiency - which i can accept given some recent leaks that went unnoticed for too long..
Mainly regarding the cost of doing this though, Nissan have quoted about 3k for this (including roughly 2k in parts) which is alot and excuse my ignorance (i dont know a lot about mechanical stuff) but i beleive i've seen timing chain kits going for a few hundred dollars (though not genuine i get it) and they reckon i might be out of a car for about a month. There are a couple of leaks to fix also, but before i give the go ahead just wondering if people think this is reasonable?
This is my first visit to pennant hills nissan in sydney, does anyone have any feedback on this workshop?
Appreciate any insight

For a dealership and the amount of work involved, I think that is quite reasonable.

It will be about half the price at a good mechanic with import experience because: they will charge much less per hour, they may have done the job before (nissan won't have) and they can choose to use non-genuine parts where it won't make a difference.

As for time, it will be a day or 2 + lead time for any parts they didn't realise they need which will be 4-6 weeks. So again, someone with experience is the go.
