Cruisen
So, yesterday my car decided to lose power whilst I was driving, and the Engine Light, VDC Off Light & Slip Light came on. I turned off my car and started it again, and the lights were still on and after a minute of driving I lost power. I pulled over for a bit and contemplated a tow truck but was eventually able to get the car home my going really slow and not pushing the Revs. No sure if this is what is meant my Limp mode. After a bit of research through the forums here, I'm lead to believe it could be due to the CAM sensors but should get someone to perform a diagnostic scan. I drove the car to my local MyCar and this time the only light that was on was the Engine Light. I kept the car at low revs the whole time. MyCar couldn't find my car and recommended that I go to an Auto Elec. I went to an Auto Elec who tried a few things to be able to run a diagnostic but still couldn't find my car / engine combo. He said it was strange that my car was a VQ30 engine motor as most are VQ35. Does anyone know in Melbourne preferably East Side that would be able to help me run a diagnostic or I can find out what the issue with my car is? Any information would be appreciated. Nightcrawler
I assume it is a sedan - in that case then almost all of them are VQ30s in Australia (the 250GTs were too low power to be allowed import into Aus, and the VQ35-equipped 350GT GT-8 is the relatively rare/much-feared CVT model). My advice would be to find a decent auto electrician who actually knows Nissans. FYI ALL V35 coupes are VQ35s. Go to a Nissan specialist - they will sort you out in no time. And yes, it is most likely Cam sensors (replace BOTH even if only is faulty). Vee37
I had a 2003 350GT Coupe and a cheapie Bluetooth ODBII scanner from ebay, connected to my phone. I used to use it to read and clear error codes (as well as live engine data). At one time, I had a failing ignition coil when the car was cold. So it had a constant misfire until the car warmed up. The VCD was automatically turned off. When the car was warm, it stopped misfiring, and if I cleared the code via ODBII, turned the car off, and restarted it, it all seemed to work normally. And then i replaced the dodgy coil when I got the part. If you can read the error codes from the ECU, it may tell you what is wrong. sonicii
There isn't many 300GT VQ30 V35s, they were only available in the sedan and only series1 and most imports were either the 350GT or 250GT, which were available all the way through to the Series3 V35 (V36 250GT wasn't allowed for import) That said, anything that can read the 250GT should be fine with the 300GT. But can't many any suggestions. NDSII states it supports the VQ25DD, so probably works with the VQ30DD. https://www.nisscan.com/NDSII/index.php?content=supportedcars 1 Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/483495-v35-300gt-trouble-finding-someone-that-has-a-compatible-diagnostic-tool/#findComment-7962698 Share on other sites
Cruisen
Thanks all. I was able to find a mechanic that was able to find my car on the scan tool. At this time I only had the engine light on. He stated it didn't come up with much and he just reset the code and took the car for a spin to see if any codes came up or the car lost power again, which it didn't. He stated that it might have been a false flag and if it happens again bring the car back. I'm not completely convinced as it worrying when the car lost power and I was hoping the issue was found and then fixed. I'm interested in others thoughts, should I not worry as there's not much I can do anyway? Duncan
Well, it would have been useful for him to tell you the actual code before resetting it....but I would not lose a second's sleep about it unless it recurs. Some codes are just for a temporary value out of bounds like an o2 sensor rich or lean. They might indicate a long term issue or it might just be random Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/483495-v35-300gt-trouble-finding-someone-that-has-a-compatible-diagnostic-tool/#findComment-7962740 Share on other sites

wizlb
Nissan can determine what problems you are having with your car. Completely untrue - almost all Nissan dealers don't want anything whatsoever to do with 'grey market' imports. Certainly none in SA do. They won't go near them and won't support you/them at all. If you are very lucky some will order parts for Skylines, but that's about it. d1git
I work at a Nissan dealership in SE Melbourne and until recently had V35 350 GT with same symptoms. Took it to work, Told the scan too it was a Canadian Q60 from memory, read the codes and yep Cam and Crank angle sensors were the problem (in some cases can be from worn timing chains but that would usually be obvious due to a lot of ticking noises) Even though Nissan use OBD2 unless you have really specific (Nissan approved) scan tools it is hard to get good info out of them Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/483495-v35-300gt-trouble-finding-someone-that-has-a-compatible-diagnostic-tool/#findComment-7965269 Share on other sites
wizlb
I used to get my Imported G35 service for 3 years at Nissan Brookvale.. which out any issues .. ever! And I’m sure the guys at Castle Hill would welcome you guys too. Take your G’s to a Nissan dealership and just talk to the service desk ppl. Remember we aren’t talking about skylines because they are different. The G is the Z from 2003 forward! Nightcrawler
wizlb, let me unequivocally guarantee you that you DON'T have a G35. There is no such thing as a right hand drive G35. G35s were made for the US market. If you have Infiniti badges or grille, or whatever else, they were fitted by someone wanting the Inifiniti badges on it either before or after it was grey market imported to Australia. You have a Japanese V35 grey import. Nissan hates V35s, as they were all imported here in direct competition with the 350Z they sold locally, and as I stated almost all Nissan dealerships won't touch a V35. If you have found one that will help you, then that is great, but that is not the experience most V35 owners have had over the years. On a related note, FYI G37s (which in Japan are called V36 Skylines and can only be imported to Aus in manufacturing years up until the end of 2012), however, were complied to Australian standards, have English buttons and everything works, and ARE Infinitis. FYI I had a V35 for 9 years, and have had my Aus delivered G37 for nearly 4 years. wizlb
Hey NC.. it’s only a name .. G or V and like I said, I got my G serviced my Brookvale Nissan for years !!! The V-G are the same car!!!! And I traded in my G35 in Nov 2017 for a Q60. This was my G35… Edited May 12, 2022 by wizlb Link to comment https://www.sau.com.au/forums/topic/483495-v35-300gt-trouble-finding-someone-that-has-a-compatible-diagnostic-tool/#findComment-7965291 Share on other sites

sonicii
Yeah, although the V35 Skyline and the G35 share almost all mechanical parts. They aren't exactly the same, there are different options/features/specs, the G35 Sedan could be had with a VQ35 AWD, no such option in the Skyline. The G35 ECU complied with the OBDII spec as required by US law, the V35 doesn't as it wasn't required in Japan. As above, G35s were LHD only. The V35 never got the VQ35DE rev-up engine the G35 did. If it is a JDM vehicle with the steering wheel on the right side it is 100% a V35 Skyline, not an Infiniti G35. Nissan Consult 3 can read all V35 functions though, where as the V36 and V37 (Q50.Q60), need Consult 3+ to access everything. joshuaho96
I don't know of any dealer anywhere that will ever touch a grey market import, nor do you really want their staff getting anywhere near one. If you need a diagnostic tool look into Nissan Datascan 2. It may not cover every single module in the car but it will probably cover everything you need and it is cheap compared to finding a real Nissan Consult tool.
