They were standard sized head studs though, right? They should hold the head gasket down fine for pretty much any use.

I've heard of cracking issues caused by how the studs are installed, ie bottoming out too hard and/or hydro locking due to fluid at the bottom of the blind hole when installing. Never had an issue personally

Yeah standard, also I backed the studs out three quarters turn before doing the nuts and washers. I dunno maybe there was some fluid down there when I put them in now that you say it

Seeming how I don’t really want to make any power with this block would there be any benefit to me running a oem headgasket if possible? I am bored out to 86.5 but it seems like it will clear a stock headgaskst as I have one lying around.

Tomei USA not the same as Tomei Japan?

Hell no, it's like saying an American person is the same as a Japanese person.

One kind speaks in imperial rubbish, arrogant and the other speaks in metric, polite and respectful.

Tomei Japan in no way associate themselves with the US arm. RHDjapan put a press release out ages ago warning of this and I'm pretty sure Sean Morris on the US gtrblog reiterated regarding US supply.

Maybe just because of the demand for awesome "Tomie" gear by the 'mericans the US arm come to fruition ?

There's a lot of drama that led up to that. Tomei USA started using different sources for camshafts and other parts and sometimes it wasn't equivalent in quality to the Tomei JP brand version. Supposedly they stopped paying the JP branch as well. You can look up Real Speed Engineering to see Tomei USA parts being sold in Japan. Personally I stay away not because of this business drama in the background but because multiple people have posted issues like the Tomei USA cams physically not fitting in the head and head gaskets failing on the very first engine start. Maybe one is a fluke but multiple people going to different machine shops and generally pretty knowledgeable about the requirements around surface finish/flatness/etc for MLS all having issues is too much for me to even bother risking it.
