Hello everyone

Ive got Skyline v36 350GT 2007

car starts hunting on idle 1500-2200 rpm) after cleaning the throttle bodies

Ive taken it to a specialist here in Perth and they told me they have to take the tbs out and reset them manually and they did, nothing changed still hunting

They tried everything nothing worked yet, they finally said the ecu needs to be reflushed but they don’t have the software for this model neither Nissan dealer.

any ideas or anyone had same issues

cheers

The good people at Uprev have the re-learning procedure here: https://uprev.com/documentation/Resets-for-Nissan-Infiniti-Functions.pdf

Super fiddly, but my car would barely run after a reflash until I got this right and is now perfect.

Note, disconnecting the battery for a minute or 2 is worth trying first

I believe the alternative is to do it via a consult, so you may have to try nissan, they are incorrect if they think they can't do it, the just need to choose DOM for Japanese Domestic on the Consult.

The key procedure is painful to get right...

One other option, does it idle OK if you unplug the AFMs? I had an AFM die which sent the ECU to limp mode, which allows it to run fine at idle (but not rev)

Duncan

Nissan said they don’t have the software for this model(2006-2007) which is ridiculous

hunting go away only when you disconnect one tb and leave the other one connected

other mechanic suggested to put a 370z ecu don’t know how accurate that is

Interesting, and what if you swap the TB, does the problem follow the TB or stay with the wiring?

Nissan are just choosing not to help (or don't know their own software). The software is the same across all models including JDM, perhaps consider another dealer if possible.

I have a consult clone, as Duncan said, you need to change the region to DOM.  If they leave it set to Oceania, they won't get the option to select this model.

Sounds exactly like the symptoms you get when you mess with the throttle bodies without doing an idle air volume learn.  Very difficult to do it via the manual method.  Consult or nissandatascan will do it.

Mechanic sounds like they are spitballing..

I get nissan are choosing not to help, or don't know they can, but the hardware/software local dealers have do have this capability. Like Greg I have a consult III clone which can connect to my fuga and other weird imports including my Cima, Titan etc OK.

yeah, consult is the nissan tool that all dealers have, you can buy Chinese clones of this which do the same thing.  There are other options out there beside Consult (can't say I have heard of anyone using the term 'consult' for devices other than the Nissan devices).

I know the nissandatascan software can do the idle air volume learn among other things the basic OBDII tools cannot, but they are not on the same level as Consult.

You need to buy your own adaptor though, their webpage lists compatible adaptors.

You would need NDSIII for the V36

Not sure whether this is related: Motorvate DIY has this warning on his idle relearn procedure for the Infiniti G37

*** NOTE: If you have a 2007 G35 or 350z (engine: VQ35HR) there have been reports of an ECU update that is required to allow the idle air volume learning to work. Without the update, after cleaning the throttle you will have a high and unstable idle ***

Also

I was experiencing the same issue after cleaning my throttle bodies for the first time after 85,000miles on my 2007 sedan. The car would not let me relearn the idle, no matter how perfectly I timed it, even using the NDS3 app it didn't work. I took it to my local Nissan dealer and told them to flash my ECU to version C and then perform the idle relearn. It worked! Car drives perfectly now.

    • Thanks mate 👍 The car was brought into the UK by a USAF mechanic until he was stationed back to the US, one owner later I bought her back in 2009. Luckily the only corrosion was on the sill seams, so once taken back to metal and treated and sealed all ok, I then undersealed the car myself and check yearly and treat any corrosion which to be honest is zero. She's garaged most of the time and hardly ever driven in the rain, but as you say most are rotten unfortunately, I was lucky in finding her as she was and still is in excellent condition.
    • Stunning car.  Looks amazing!  You're in the UK?  How the hell do you stop your car rotting away beneath you?  British cars are the WORST I've ever seen in regards to rust.  Some of the cars SR Autobody have done are borderbeyond saving.
    • not a date code? or a foundry code?
    • I have up to date pics of the engine build and turbo conversion over on my instagram @skpro_jects if you want to take a deeper look.   Basically the exhaust manifold is straight bolt on and the ports match (they arent any smaller than a 25 or 26 head).    the intake ports are different shape so the 20/25det manifold will bolt up but wont match properly or seal. You will need to port match using the 25det gasket as a stencil. Personally i ran the entire stock 20neo intake setup and have configured the swirl valves and torque valve to work based on my custom parameters to help with off boost response and spool. But this is using a standalone aem v2 ecu. The stock 20det ecu wont be able to control them.
    • Hi. a little later but if the topic is here. So...the exhaust is the same and you can use 25/Turbo or any aftermarket? What about intake side? Is it too "plug n play" or? (i do not remember for 100% but i think that one intake to head gasket was little bit different than on the RB25 - i bought gasket kit way back) I know that even if it "plug" those butterfly swirls would cause ECU to be confused or?   Just asking for the info 🙂 and of course the RB25 things are easier to come by
