hey guys

just a QQ, with the brakes on the early GTR's like the one I'm importing, being the same as GTST calipers has anyone had any braking problems at track days? and thought upgrading the front calipers to the later model bembo's would be worth it?

I know that the rotors on the GTR are bigger then the GTST after looking through the DBA catalogue so that would help. if anyone has an early GTR wiht the nissan brakes could they post up on what they think of them

cheers

mark :)

Whilst they share the same pads as GTST (and S14, S15, Landcruiser, WRX.......), they are a thicker and stronger caliper developing more clamping force.

Before you spend big bucks on upgrading, do the basics and you will be amazed at the difference:

* change brake fluid for good quality

* check brake hoses and replace with braided (ADR) items

* make sure discs aren't grooved and machine/replace if necessary

AND MOST IMPORTANTLY,

* Use good quality pads

My std GTR brakes have held up to serious track days just by changing out the brake fluid regularly and using good quality pads on the front.

Personally I use Pagid blue, expensive but bloody good

thanks for that, so the calipers are different aswell. interesting

I was changing the pads for either ferodo or RB74's and something similar on the rear

as for the fluid that was being changed in a full service I am getting at ASE when the car is complianced. discs I was thinking of changing to DBA 5000's if the std calipers were good enough

but obviously moving to the brembo's would be good, I mean being a larger disc and better caliper

I Have R32 GTR brakes on the front of my R31 with new RB74 pads, new motul brake fluid and braided lines.

I have no complaints at all and the braking is magnificent, I feel very confident and safe with these brakes. But that is in a car that is a bit lighter than a GTR.

I didnt know the calipers were any stronger but was told they are alloy and the GTS-Ts are not.

But I have never been on a track so cant comment how they would hold up.

The place that did the brakes ( race brakes in VIC ) did tell me that the RB74 pads were probably not suitable for a serious track day but on the street would be perfect.

Beware if you have white rims with the RB74s though, as they will turn them black very fast, like every day.

I'm using R32 GT-R calipers on the S15 with DBA 4000 slotted rotors and Ferodo DS2500. Sure there was an improvement from the standard S15 calipers, but by no means a cheap exercise eg. calipers, rotors, fluid, lines all add up.

The difference in R33 GTS-T calipers and R32 GT-R calipers are that the GT-R take slightly thicker rotos 32mm instead of 30mm.

Go with better pads and brake fluid like the others recommend and you should see some difference.

IMHO swapping the calipers would not yield you that much, if at all.

C.

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
