r34 rb25 wont start

My son has a r34 rb25, the afm was removed and cleaned with brake clean and replaced. The car will crank fine now but no spark or fuel. Any ideas?? tia.

That's not related to the afm.

What else did they do?

they unplugged the afm and took it out, put it back in and plugged it back in

I'm not even sure the RB ECU looks at the MAF sensor when cranking. Verify that the ECU is getting ignition synchronization by checking whether it emits an RPM signal.

Take it a mechanic who has a scan tool.

It will be one of these. It is considered to be OBD1.

Whilst being entirely proprietary. The protocol is called Nissan Consult. It's Nissan's own serial diagnostics interface and protocol, only used on Nissans. But any good general purpose scan tool should be able to do it.

Rb's will definitely  start with maf unplugged.

Something else is wrong.

you can check it is getting an RPM signal while cranking by looking at the tacho
