HKS Cam gears

Anyone know if the hks cam gears that fit the gtrs work on the neo stagea, I’m changing my belt and want to get gears at the same time. Stagea isn’t in the stated compatibility list but the heading is rb 20,25&26. The tomei cams on the other hand stagea is listed.

The NEO engines have VCT on the intake cam. So unless you delete that whole oil-fed system you would need a different intake cam gear to be able to vary the intake cam timing. Keep in mind you must test the system at both extremes unless you want to potentially let pistons meet valves when the cam is advanced. Exhaust cam should be the same either way.

So would Tomei gears work with neo vct

Okay I understand now, there’s no need for adjustable cam on inlet but I can do it for the exhaust side. I really just wanted it for looks. Now I’m rethinking because I’ll only have one after market cam gear now on exhaust side…

Nvm, cas covers the exhaust gear  anyways 🤦‍♂️ That sucks lol

If this is a purely aesthetic thing I recommend not bothering. Multiple times now people have forgotten to torque + threadlock their cam gears to spec with the correct timing and they've trashed their heads when it loosens and allows cam timing to hit the extremes of advance/retard.

Why get a HKS belt when a Pitwork belt is a fraction of the price and works well?

Clear timing belt covers can be useful, someone local to me recently discovered their timing belt was hanging on by threads because of it and got a tow home instead driving home and snapping it entirely.

That's not useful. Timing belts last absolutely ages.

Not if the timing belt somehow is misaligned upon installation. How someone managed that I'll never know but that was one time where the clear cover paid off.

It doesn't surprise me that the type of person who wants a clear timing belt cover is the type of person who can't put a timing belt on.
