Hi 

I’m looking at buying a 2004 Nissan Skyline 350GT V35 Auto with 115,000km 

Imported back in 2013 by a small import business only had 1 owner in Aus 

also would I have to get parts from Japan or do all the engine parts from the 350z fit

Engine, transmission, suspension, brakes, all straight from a 350Z, it is really only the body that is different.

'Small import business' scares me, I would get my own japan history check done before buying, make sure it isn't a repaired wreck and make sure the KM when it left Japan line up with what is on the oldest Australian service record.  don't trust any history document supplied by the importer, or documents the seller got from the importer.

As said, if the km are too good to be true (and they are by half), then it might be wound back. Get a reputable odo check company to do a history on the car.

 

Parts are easy, generally - most parts are available locally, or at worst out of Japan or the USA.

If you google 'Japan car history check', there is at least one main site, it isn't free though.  It will catch some of the slimy tricks like shady operators in japan buying damaged cars at auction, doing a quick repair job, winding back the speedo, then re-auctioning them, of course the dodgy importers here only show you the final auction sheet, not the first one.

I don't have an auto, but I don't believe they are a known problem.  But like any auto, if you neglect it, it will give you problems.

Not going to thrashing it but a couple pulls here and there just want to make sure there wearnt anything wrong with the auto trans for the certain model

It varies state to state. By chance, I accidentally came across an Australian wide one when checking for something else (for a 370GT, not legal for P's in NSW). I couldn't find that page now. Here is one for NSW

I found it using the search terms:"2004 Nissan Skyline 350gt is green p plate legal". Basically your question. I know the 370GT is not for P's in NSW. When I was looking for my 3760GT, one was being sold by a P plater, and was actually bought by another member here, that used it as a bargaining angle. But there are a number of states that it is. I think on the page I saw it was Power to Weight ratio.

The 2004 Nissan skyline 350GT I was looking at buying and as I went to view it they said they imported it in 2013 and the owner is too old to drive now so he sold it back to the import company where he got it from. Also unfortunately there aren’t any service records. But they said it has always been serviced while they have owned it not sure about the old bloke tho. 

so I’m kinda stuck not sure if it’s worth the risk I could get a mobile mechanic to do a full check and if it turns out to be healthy if it’s worth $14,250

How long have they owned it?

 

It's an 18 yr old car with questionable history that's not cheap. Hope that puts it in perspective.

Redbook values have always seemed on the cheap side whenever I have looked at them. I am guessing they are more dealer/trade orientated. But, a print-out may help as a bargaining chip.

I found the KM made a big diff to price, but you need to confirm the value. My 350GT only had 23,000 on the clock, but the floor mats were waaaaay to worn for so low a odometer reading (and I assumed it was wound back). Out of the 5-10 that I drove, it felt the best. Some of them really felt "tired". . A few years later of owning the car, I found the JP auction papers (in the car!) and they showed that the car has been would back 30k. At least at that one point. 23k on odo, 50k on auction

    • So, it's clearly an electrical problem. Either with the gauge itself, or the sender. It appears to be voltage sensitive (ie, alternator output affects the reading.
    • Yes, at this stage of SAU threads, I  automatically assume that anyone here knows that everything depends on each and every setup and its choice of parts and what an individual wants from the setup. I think your misunderstanding what I've said, I'm not saying your curve will move to the right.. I'm stating the opposite; that my setup has a much larger turbo than my last one, my current exhaust manifold runners are 2-3x longer than the last one, the intercooler is longer and thicker (hks 103mm thick), the itbs are now oversized from 45mm up to 49mm, and the plenum is now a larger Nismo plenum that's been port matched. As a result, I'm making more power, torque and boost 1000rpm earlier than my last setup. My curve moved left, in a big way. You guys with 800-1000+hp turbos should be considering hks v-cam or the other Japanese company Sakura who makes RB25 Neo vct adaptor kits for RB26's. they all make more power / boost / torque far earlier and higher peak numbers. Dahtone Racing modifies the Hks v-cam systems to his own specs and he also developed the worlds first and best dbw individual throttle body kits, to complement his V-cam. Every single car is 800-1200+hp and they all produce huge gains in response and peak power. 
    • I have a 2008 Skyline 370gt with about 160,000 km on the clock currently. A while ago, I noticed the temp gauge would start climbing but it comes down when I give it some throttle. I took it into the shops. The technicians comments are transcripted below. Reported they couldn't find anything wrong with the vehicle mechanically and they pressure tested the cooling system. Funnily enough, the technician commented that the temperature dropped back down when the car is stationary but this is when I'd notice the temp gauge to be climbing. Just wondering if anyone else experienced anything similar to enlighten me? Cos at the onset, the temps were going up one tick and then comes back down when I step on it. Now, the temps are climbing all the way to the top of the gauge, and it's making me very nervous lol. It also doesn't come down to the neutral position anymore. PS I do have a small exhaust leak near the drivers side caused by when I got f**ked by a really steep driveway at a mall I never visited before. Not sure if this would affect the sensor. Technician comments: Check and verify Fan/Cooling system - ALL OK max 106*C and fans operating at 100% Cools down right away. Checked Fan Operation - 55%@101*C, 85% @ 104*C and 100% @ 105*C Vehicle did not exceed these temperatures with max load. Temperature recovered back to 99*C after fan operation while vehicle Stationary.
    • It really depends on your setup. Mine is 'accidently' more suited to revving higher. bigger cams, turbo etc. Plus my super long first takes donkey years to come onto boost, so if it will move my power band to the right, maybe i'll pass on this. i have a G45-1500 going on there soon which I suspect might make it more of a fat pig.
