Hi everyone. I just bought a skyline R32 using my heart instead of my head. I'm looking to make a few purposeful changes to keep it practical. In particular I'm looking to install a gas strut to hold up the bonnet. They go for about $120 online but I was wondering if anyone has found a cheaper alternative that fits well? Or perhaps have you gone another path?

I recommend sticking to the hood prop, that's inevitably what people use anyways when the gas strut loses charge.

Agree the stock rod will outlast the gas struts, but I've read elsewhere they are not very secure and can pop out if slightly nudged

You have to nudge it pretty hard. Anything where the hood might be fouling on something else like pulling an engine you may as well just remove the hood altogether.
