Failed to install reverse camera

So having thought about it and what the guy told me, turns out I was very close to getting it to work. The guy said the din unit doesn't know that I'm in reverse, thats why he ran a wire to the reverse light. I thought I could select the "camera" option on the din unit and i was wondering why it didn't turn on and it still doesn't. He said for that I'd have to run an extra wire. 

I think that reverse wire was just for power, not for the din to recognize that it was in reverse.

One last thing I forgot to notice. I realized my din unit was quite hot when I took it out last time, i think even when the car wasn't driven, I assume this would be normal because the dash is getting heated? But at same time, it's under shade so it shouldnt be?

Amplifier inside it running flat out, regardless of volume setting. Classic class A/B thing.
