Hi all,

Analysis paralysis in reviewing all the options (US domestically available) for oil filter relocations and external coolers. I think I like the design of the GReddy Taarks bolt-on block adapter, I'm just not sold on the GReddy filter relocation block (PN 12401114 with internal temp sensor) - does anyone know if you can mount any filter onto this block or only the tiny GReddy ones?

Also, thoughts on the external GReddy cooler (PN NS1010G) ? Otherwise any better options that are widely available? I'm leaning towards the fender liner location.

Thanks!

My vote is either the Nismo or HKS oil cooler kit. Personally I do not find the oil filter location to be that bad other than the mess of oil that spills out when you go to remove it but you can fix this with a form-a-funnel to direct oil the right way.

Ok thanks. Aside from the mess it’s just a pain to get to the filter and the GReddy block has a built in thermostat to activate the external oil cooler, so seems like a no brainer unless there’s a better alternative

The HKS is a bigger core, is there any other advantage?

I may just go with a Chase Bays universal kit and fab brackets into the fender liner location

The other useful consideration is ports for oil temp and pressure ECU senders (or gauges if your ECU doesn't support it).

I agree the standard location is a pain, and in a 4wd chassis you just end up with oil on the front sump to drip off for the next 10,000klm. Also in an R32 4wd, if you do still have HICAS installed it is even worse to get access to the stock location.

I am not sure about 2wd chassis (probably the same), but in the 4wd ones mounting the filter upside down on the chassis rail in front of the diff is a great spot. Easy to get at when you are undoing the oil plug and no mess as it drains straight down.

A "kit" will assume the cooler location and hoses will be cut to suit which can be a real pain if there is anything different about your car. Making braided lines to length (or having them made to length if you are not confident) is straightforward to DIY.

You could mount the relocation like this instead of the normal location that Greddy's kit is meant to be installed in. Then it's really easy with zero mess. Send Cut Send is super easy for laser cut/welded parts if you can take measurements and do some CAD. Personally I am lazy and I realized with the R33 that doesn't have a bunch of HICAS crap fighting for space down there just spacing out the oil filter a little further is probably good enough.

I went with PMC Motorsport block adapter and HPI for the oil filter relocation.

I chose the PMC  mainly due to the sensor provisions are on the front face vs on the side.

The plan for now is to mount HPI on the front crossmember. Depending on the radiator size, fan, fan shrouds the location should work for most.

easily accessible and zero engine bay mess. It has the 3/4-16 thread to support standard JDM filters.

Cooler wise, I just went with the Nismo one only due to ordering the Nismo bumper to suit.
