R32 Climate Control Unit Partially Working

Hey Guys,

I recently decided to get air con working in my car again but the control unit display does not work and I’m not sure if it’s doing anything. I recently got it repaired and it worked for a little bit when I tested it. I tried running the diagnostic but as soon as I tried to move in the menu it shut off. Now the whole unit won’t turn on again. The only thing I know that still works is the fan mode button because the blower actually turns on. 
 

I’m planning on getting the unit repaired again so does anybody have any suggestions on things I should check in the car before I try using the AC unit again so I can make sure nothing in the car causes the unit to dry itself again?

Chuck another unit in if you can find one. I had like 3, might still have around.

They're 30+ years old electronics, they will fail.
