The 'ol single spinner ain't gonna be fun much longer as I start to add a bit of power. I haven't hit the track in the 335 but I did a few in the 330 and even with a lot less power the need for an LSD was there.

I'm throwing around some options, all of which are out of my price range atm (a fair few maintenance items to do first). Quaife is up there but there is a mob in the states that have a helical LSD shipped to me for around $1300 USD which seems reasonable.

A few guys are going 8.8" ford but I don't want to have to deal with modified housings or shafts or anything. Makes life difficult in the future.

Ultimately I'd love a BMW LSD that would just be a straight swap but they rarely come up.

Do I need to get these installed with some kind of specialist diff mob? Its definitely not something I'd try on my own.

Thanks guys.

There's a guy in NSW that specializes in BMW Diffs, 'Kurtis Aroney' supposedly.

There's also Difflab, who are in QLD and seem to know their modern BMW Diffs. Maybe someone in the local timezone that you can speak to :D

You can install a complete diff by yourself - you'll need a 50mm open end spanner to undo (and redo) the nut holding the driveshaft to the diff. Some of the underfloor insulation needs to come out to get access, but I've done it (on a 335i) on jackstands in my garage.

Oh, I meant more about the internals if I was going to put a quaife in or similar.

Thanks for this, I'll reach out and get some figures. I do think its going to be damn pricey though.

I was going to add a line about not trying to change internals but decided that was too obvious🙂 I wouldn't do it - the setup of a diff is a pretty specialist area.
