Hey guys, Ive been a silent reader for years and love this community. I am wondering if you guys have recommendations for a pop-up screen entertainment unit that comes with a rear view camera ? preferably plug and play cos i kinda suck at wiring and etc. for the GTR r33.

I love my 3 gauges hence the pop-up idea. or alternatively, you guys know where i could find a replacement trim for the 12v outlet + ashtray to fit the climate control console (i know yoshida makes one but they sell them for a price i could not afford). That way I could just use a screen unit that takes "two console" spaces.

In short, I want a screen, rear view camera, and to keep my 3 gauages and climate control.

Thanks a million guys.

Sounds like you're asking for a Pioneer AVH-3500NEX.

One thing to consider with that, since the early 00s I had something similar in the stagea.

While it was single DIN, when the screen is open (all the time while driving), it blocked the climate controls and partly blocked the air vents (or in 33 GTR the triple gauges) anyway

Yeah there's no winning to some extent with the double DIN issue. Annoying either way. Personally I haven't used the stereo at all. If I ever get around to it I will replace it with a mechless single DIN with bluetooth and call it a day.

The other question was how to install without cutting wires. That's pretty simple. You can buy harness adapters for radios for 100% plug and play reversible installation. I don't recall what year of Maxima you're looking for in the US but that is how you do it.

I'd be interested to hear about some solutions for this as well. Similar situation as I'd like to keep the triple analog gauges.

That's a good point. Looks like on the Pioneer the default can be changed on whether it is open or not. And it has the usual radio control buttons even when it is folded.

Sounds a bit annoying regardless. I think it's possible to half move the screen, but looks like it's via touch screen controls only so not great whilst driving. There are some videos about the controls on youtube. Doesn't look like it's possible to move it by hand to just quickly reach the controls that are hidden when it's up.

Personally at $1300 AUD I'd want something that is pretty much perfect so not sure about this one.

Hah, I hear you. The speakers in mine are stuffed so haven't listened to music in the car at all. Weird how after a while it just becomes normal. Even considered blanking out the stereo slot out to make it look a bit cleaner.

Would be nice though to have a proper display with carplay/android auto integration.

The best way is the new Garage Yoshida injection molded HVAC relocation. He 3D-scanned an OEM shift surround piece and then modified the design in CAD to fit the HVAC unit. Should all just clip in and the look/feel of it should be just like stock: https://blog.garage-yoshida.net/archives/15611

Then any good 2-DIN unit will work.

Thanks a lot pal, that’s what I’m looking for I think.

I see where you are coming from and I agree with you. I’m hoping to move the climate control to the bottom shelf, popup screen in the middle, and I’ll just live with the screen open knowing I have the 3 gauges behind it to feel good.

See, that is awesome, good on them for doing the R&D for something R33 owners have needed for years! Yes, not cheap, but for a smart solution to a real inconvenience I think it is reasonable.

    • I recently got their dbw 74mm throttle body and pedal kit. It is sensational quality especially the wiring harnesses. Unfortunately I can’t answer u about the fitment to stock inlet manifold as I’m going Rahjab Racing forward plenum. Only one thing to be careful of is understand u have to pay gst and import fees if your purchase is over $1,000 in one shipment.
    • yeah i agree paint match stops it from standing out so much, oh that's actually really good to know i was wondering if it would help with air flow now actually having an outlet in the bonnet. Will have to focus on ducting into and out of the radiator now to make the most of it.
    • I would paint match the whole thing to avoid unwanted attention  I had a similar bonnet, paint matched, on my old R33 GTST, but mine was a fibreglass jobbie made by Blitz in QLD, they work extremely well for radiator efficiency and under bonnet temps
    • Does anyone run this kit with factory plenum? Does the adapter and bosch tb fit under factory strut brace? I wanted to get this setup before going forward facing manifold. Thanks
    • small update time, after always wanting a "cool" looking bonnet for my car and always struggling to find one for the series 2 that i liked and wasn't an insane amount of money. Saw one i liked on RHDjapan from D-speed in Japan the price was very good for a carbon bonnet so good infact i was a little unsure how much i trusted it, decided to bite the bullet and with the help of jesse streeter in not long at all it was at my door. Once it was delivered i ran in from work and quickly unboxed it and to my surprise the quality was actually pretty good i quickly removed the old bonnet and placed on the new one to test it out and even the fitment wasnt too bad at all. Then decided to paint the little grille in the bonnet black to stop it sticking out so much.   I decided to not mess around with the hood latch and just install some aero catch hood pins, having never installed them before did some YouTube university classes and i was good to go. fair to say it is not a fun job at all from making brackets so the pins sit nicely and actually cutting through the bonnet but also being very scared of cutting the holes too big it took wayyyy longer than i would like to admit but finally got it there. Then it was time for a quick test drive to ensure the latches actually worked and thankfully the bonnet looked very stable. I still think paint matching the bonnet and leaving just the part that sticks up as carbon would help make it all look alot neater as im not sure how i feel about all that carbon on a very fridge white car but will leave it as is and see how i feel with time.
