Water pump replacement - Sydney region

Hi Folks,

my 2009 Skyline 370GT “Crossover” wagon is losing water and has been diagnosed as needing a water pump replacement (it’s an internal timing-chain driven unit, not the usual electric type that seems to be used across many manufacturers). Am looking for any repairer recommendations in the Sydney /Wollongong region who can be trusted and are experienced in this sort of work on the VQ 36 engine. Many thanks….Bill

Sorry for typo - it’s a VQ37 engine not VQ36.

There isn't that many cars yet that are using electric coolant pumps, but they are slowly becoming more common, especially in the euro brands.  back in 2009, they were quite rare, pretty much all were either timing chain or accessory belt driven.

That said, the VQ37VHR isn't an uncommon engine, so any decent mechanic should be able to replace the water pump.  I don't live in NSW, so can't make any suggestions.

My trusted mechanic is Tunehouse in Calder St, Marrickville. He's the guy who did the ECUtek dyno tune on mine. I'm nearing the 85k mark for my motor and I'm considering getting the oil galley gaskets done as preventative maintenance when the time comes. Since my garage isn't big enough for such a task, I'm definitely going to be handing it over to him.

You'll be impressed by how clean he keeps his workshop. It gives you the confidence he and his employees will look after your vehicle with the same pride.
