English sat nav conversion.

Recommended Posts

I've searched, but many old posts...

If you buy an import with full Japanese display, what is the easiest/best/affordable way to get it all working in English with Aus maps etc.

And look factory original?

Is there a diy, self-install kit available?

Cheers

Dave

I got mine done over 8 years ago in Adelaide and it cost over $1000.

To get a real cost it's best to ring some local Car audio places or Jap import car yards near you. Some will be able to do some wont.

At the time i got mine done it was cheaper to do an Android OS. But i wanted OG with English.

I use my phone for audio/music so using it for Nav as well. I also like the traffic/hazard/speed camera updates of Waze. So, I spent my effort on a good phone mount. It also keeps the car computer stuff on a seperate screen to my nav. So I had the mid screen computer converted to english. The nav is useless and in Japanese, and most of the led screen between the tach & spedo is in japanese.

It was cheap quick and easy (done over internet in NZ, and they send you a CD). The nav on my phone and the car screen showing car stuff works for me personally. I can also have ODBII displayed on my phone. But that is my Nav screen.

I like the two screens

    • S14 rear subframe is just an R33/4 subframe without HICAS. All of the above differ from R32 in a number of ways, but most importantly the lower control arms must stay with the subframe. You can't use R32 arms on S14-ish subframe. it is actually good and desirable to use an R33/4 or S14 rear in an R32, because it is the easy way to get rid of the stupid amount of anti-squat that Nissan put in the R32's geometry. It is this difference that is the reason why you can't mix and match arms. The diff mounts are different and you have to use offset chassis bushes to fit the subframe to the car also.
    • Okay that sounds great! How much hp do you drive and with which turbo ?
    • I think Throtl on YouTube is doing a GTR swap on a 34 GT. It’s more or less the same thing you want to do but with an older chassis.   from memory there are some cheat parts you can use like an S14 rear subframe to adapt GTR bits.
    • Could never daily a 32. So easy to pull the window back and open the door. I only take mine where I’ll always have line of sight visibility - which is a bit sad. Plus my SQ5 goes faster and makes more power than a stock GTR so I daily that - with seat warmers and massagers. I’ve got a full GTR front swap and so many spare bits for a 32 in the garage that I just never got around to selling - looking for a fixer upper to put them all on. The ones in oz are too expensive for what they are and the ones in Japan are too bottom of the barrel.
