Hello again I just got my rb25 tuned yesterday made 450 forged internals and semi built head I went on a beer run and let the car warm up before I got on it and I did a small pull and then about a minute later the engine shut off. I towed it back to the house and been tearing into it today. It’s odd I cant turn the engine by hand to the right (intake to exhaust side) it has some wiggle then it stops and won’t turn any more but I can turn it to the left no problem. I did a leak down and all cylinders were in good condition. I’m so lost at this point. I checked cams in case they snapped and they are all good too. I think I’m going to pull the head off tomorrow just to see what’s going on because I don’t understand.

Well, it's too weird to be making any guesses. I'd have the plugs out and a borescope into the cylinders before doing anything else.

Do you mean to say that you can turn it over continuously? Like, it's not seized or blocked from rotation outright? Only won't turn forwards? If so, would sound perhaps like something has dropped into the timing belt area or has otherwise arranged itself like a ratchet pawl, so that it prevents rotation one way, but not the other.

Yes and that’s what I think as well and yes the rotation is continuous

Most likely won't hold pressure, however it is still possible if the valve isn't bent

I just realized something I’m at TDC and my intake cam is at the timing mark the horizontal mark and my exhaust cam is at like 7-8 o’clock position not even close to the timing mark. I’ve timed these engines about 5 times now and always do it the same line up the 3 marks crank and two cam. How tf have my cam spun that far off. I’m gonna check all the timing system tomorrow

Many possibilities, like cam gears coming free of the cam shaft and spinning.

So good news and bad head is off. Good news engine is turning again forwards continuously and pistons have very small mark on the top where valves hit it does catch a finger nail going to still ask machinist if it’s ok to run I think they will be ok.  On to the bad I took the exhaust cam off because the exhaust valves where the only on the pistons and it seems like my first cam cap (closest to timing gear) was eating into the camshaft and end up stopping it all the valves have the marks in picture.

    • Autostrada Accessories supplied and installed their retrofit kit. you can purchase it from them however it does cost about $600. From memory the total install price i paid was $700-750. I found it worthwhile as i drove highway alot.    From the email 5 years ago heres their part number Etc E-Cruise, Nissan Skyline V36 SKU # 101732 Part # EC-NI11NO
    • Thanks for that, I figured it would be problematic at best.   What aftermarket CC did you go with? As I like the idea of it at least showing the light on the IC.
    • Used to build my rigs, but just doesn't interest me like it used to, so now I run a couple OE machines: HP 15s-eq Notebook 45W - Ryzen5 5500U - 2x8gb Corsair DDR4 3200 - 970 Evo Plus 1tb   HP Elitedesk 705 G4 35W - Ryzen5 Pro 2400G - 2x8gb Kingston DDR4 2666 - Kingston A2000 1tb   They're compact, low watt & game surprisingly well if you're not wanting more than 1080p.
    • Went down this road, Ended up not being entirely possible  i purchaed the OEM Steering wheel buttons/shroud and had a place in brisbane install an aftermarket CC. They're able to utilise the steering wheel buttons for this 👍 The light also came up on the dash as the wiring for the control loom is there. As close to factory as you'd get.
    • Ive been digging pretty harshly on oil info tonight. Seems like you're mostly right, except they do have some info that in the higher temps (like SEQ), I should push more to SAE30, but otherwise, meh.   Also, felt the oil, it doesn't feel very oily any more... It also had a light smell of fuel...   As for starting, well, I've already abandoned the pull start, as it failed. Cord rotted, and metal throwout things rusted up and jammed. So now I use a battery drill and a socket... Electric start FTW!   Also sharpened the blade while I was at it tonight. She was very dull... Mark, for blades, make your own. They're just mild steel.   I made mine to be a high lift blade. It really throws the grass in the catcher. Might have been a little too high on the lift though... It was enough that it started to bend the blade tips down towards the earth... Ha ha ha I may have put some epic angle and size on my wings...
