['96 r33 GTST] Need some help gauging how much I should pay for a CD009 transmission kit.

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am looking to upgrade my transmission to a CD009. My tuner referenced me to a local who was doing the same project as me, but didn't finish and is selling. My tuner knows the person and has vouched for the quality of parts being in good condition.

He is offering for £3,500 (AU$ 6,815.93)

  • CD009 gearbox with RB25DET bell housing fitted
  • New Clutch Fork (fitted)
  • New Release Bearing (fitted)
  • OS Giken STR2CD twinplate clutch with brand new rebuild kit

I have absolutely no idea if this is a good deal or not. I appreciate any insight from those who know these things better than I.

Thank you in advance.

OK, well, being realistic:

  • RB25DET gearbox (new, from Nissan), A$4k.
  • Good clutch, >A$1k, possibly $2k.

So, you're already into the ballpark just with those two things and to stay 5 speed.

Someone has borne costs and done work to put the RB bellhousing on the CD009, and there's some other parts included. It seems like a reasonable price to me. It's not as if these things are lying around where you can just pick one up (the whole kit, readyish to go) and/or play off one vendor against another. So the pricing has to seem reasonable to both you and the seller.

Seems a reasonable price, some other things to consider, driveshaft & xmember, you'll need to run the speedo off the abs, an after market lever/bracket.

You'll most likely want to change the diff ratio, do you need any kind of certification in the uk for it?

If the car is quite low, the cd will hang down lower than the 25 box.

I run a CD009. See my DIY for info on what I spent. 6800$ isn't cheap, but it's not terrible either.

Keep in mind, you'll still need the following parts.

- Shifter relocation kit

- Trans Mount

- Driveshaft

- Slave Cylinder

- Rear final drive (This doesn't have to be done right away.)

- Some new way to detect speed.

For the sake of cost comparison, I’m currently embarking on putting a new 5 speed into my R33. I imported a new RB25DET gearbox from Japan, which was about AU$3.3k delivered to my door. It was a very slow process (~2 months) and I got extremely lucky with the exchange rate. The twin plate clutch I bought was about AU$1.8k. I've also had to buy all the additional parts required to convert the gearbox from a pull type clutch to a push type clutch. Total cost is about AU$5.5k, so GTSBoy is pretty close to the money.

    • You all are absolute legends! Thank you for helping me put this into context with your comparisons!
    • There's probably an underlying issue with the A/C system too. I recently fixed mine, now it's fully control by the Haltech and car's factory HVAC controller  Have a squiz here:
    • And by the way, I've also checked the ECU diagnostic numerous times and got a bad O2 sensor code and initially an Ignition Primary code, which is why I replaced the O2 sensor and all the ignition components (coil packa, plug and loom). No codes have been coming up lately despite the ongoing issue.
    • Hey pber13, unfortunately still no luck. At this point the following has been done with little or no success: - Spark plugs replaced, gapped to 0.8mm - Splitfire coilpacks installed to replace originals - Replaced Ignition Coil/Coilpack harness with a new genuine nissan one - New fuel filter - Replaced AFM/MAF sensor - Injectors have been thoroughly cleaned with an online flush (without removing) - Upper engine and inlet decarbed - blew tons of black smoke out, cleared the carbon deposits from the top of the engine and exhaust.  - IACV removed and thoroughly cleaned with carburettor cleaner - O2 sensor replaced with new and genuine one -  Smoke test revealed no vacuum leaks - Healthy compression test of 160psi across all 6 cylinders Overall the car does run a lot smoother now, no backfires between gear shifts like it did originally... but the rough idle when warmed up is still there. It may not even be a misfire but simply a rough idle. Seems crazy to me that so many people have had this issue and seemingly no one has gotten to the bottom of it, or at least never bothered to post if they did! Hope you have more luck than I did pber13, I'm at a point now where I'm just going to try to ignore it unless it gets worse. Would love to fix it but I've genuinely run out of ideas of what it could be.
