Im paying a hell of an insurance at the moment for my car but im sure they are basing it off a R35 GTR price?

When i try to get a quote or even give them my number plate to get to even try they ask is my registration cancelled?

and that they cant find it even though its fully registered.

they tell me there is no 2020 Model Skyline and then i tell them its an Infiniti Q50 Redsport equiv in the USA the insurance is half price to what they setup for me calling the car a Skyline.

this is through NRMA and i tried Allianz and i got the same issue with the model not exsisting.

I know i cant say its an Infiniti because in the case of insurance payout they will just say its not the same car.

i know there is a few V37 Nissan Skyline 400R's in Australia what have you guys done for your insurance?

am i doing something wrong?

Did you buy the car from a dealership here in Australia? I am assuming you did, as to my knowledge you can't import any 2020 Skylines from Japan. In that case it is NOT a 400R and not a Skyline. It is a Q50 Infiniti That is why the insurance companies cannot find your model - a 2020 Nissan Skyline does not exist in Aus. Just because someone might have put Skyline badging and a 400R style front bumper on it, does not make it a Skyline. The people calling their Infinitis 400Rs are kidding themselves - they are not that car, and neither is yours I am pretty sure.

Post a picture of your VIN plate - that will tell the story.

there absolutely is 400R’s here in Australia, no age regulations on imports.
I checked one out when looking for a q60 rs recently. Had all import paperwork aswell. Carsales lists 3 up for sale aswell.

Yeah they sure are available for import now, its great news :)

Matt, You need an import specialist insurer, nothing has really changed over the years about the mainstream insurance companies not touching them.

I have my cars with Lumley (same group as NRMA etc) because they insure imports and have a good concept of "stable use" where as long as no more than 2 cars are being driven each day you can have them all on a good rate, I've also had no issues with claims through them. Note they won't insure a car if you take it to the track, even for an off track claim.

Shannons are another option but I had a lot of trouble with their claims (they were happy to take the premiums, not so keen to pay out), and I'm sure there are other import specialists too

As far as I know, Infiniti stopped importing vehicles before 2020, even though they were still selling their stock for at least a year or 2 after that, they were older build years, therefore, you can import a 2020 400R, because you couldn't buy an AuDM 2020 built Q50 RS.

As for insurance, you might need to go through one of the enthusiast insurance companies, they tend to insure a lot more grey import models than the mainstream insurers as Duncan mentioned.

shannons wasnt far off what i was paying tbh.

so i will check out Lumley and i dont track the car at all.

but yer this is definitley a 2020 Nissan Skyline 400R and yer im sure i will have trouble telling my insurance i have a Q50 RS simply because its not the car i have even though its the same build.

and yes i did buy it from a dealership.

That shoots down the suggestion they are a similar price to a 5yr older Q50 RS.  if you pay that price for a 2016 RS you would have rocks in your head.

I agree...but that aint the going price for a 400r. Pretty speculative price because it has plastic on the seats still, I just don't see new car buyers being too excited about a JDM import, different mindset/different market

fair call, but the going price of a '16 RS is around $30k.  also don't think you have any chance of finding a '21 400R for close to that figure.  If you find one.. sign me up!

It's good to dream, but no way anyone is paying $65k for that, on a basically dead platform, when the M340i exists.

    • Struggled as well. Got a 3:33.250 but couldn't find the half a second to get silver. I always slowed too much at the Esses du Karting section (specifically the last left hander going on to Maison Blanche). There's a good 1 - 1.5 seconds to be picked up there for sure. The other 1.5 seconds needed for gold would be just cleaning up the rest of the slower corners. I did notice though watching the ghost replays of guys getting 3:25's, they used the green painted surfaces to the extreme, with barely the inside tyres on the ripple strips. It looked like they had the car completely on the green paint at times (but obviously still contacting the ripple strips).
    • Good afternoon SAU Team , I thought I would a quick update on the 400R , so far a quick ICE system mod using carlinkit , I can run full android without a phone , but it does allow for wireless carplay/android auto, loads a bit slow but everything works well. But the better update is ,I just received Fujitsubo exhaust straight  from Japan thanks to the guys at Black Hawk (https://www.blackhawkjapan.com/) (highly recommended)around 3k mark with shipping and GST . Will install this weekend , I'll post some updated pictures then.

    • Constant tension spring clamps need to be replaced if bent past a certain point. Once they turn to a certain age it's also an automatic replacement in my book. They get rusty and lose their tension. Also once hoses get to a certain age if you don't set the clamp exactly in the groove when disconnecting/reconnecting the hose it will almost certainly leak. As mentioned before you should also cap off the idle-up valve to make sure it's not sucking fluid or leaking air into the system. It's generally speaking less demotivating to figure out which change fixed your problem vs failing over and over until you locate the problem precisely.
    • Yeah , boot clamp was solid/ not sure how it got there but no leak so all good   there is loads of green grease still so do think it is likely to be a special grease or something    thanks again for your help mate to shed the light
