I don't post on here and have been lurking for some time now. Many of the topics have helped me out more times than i can count. I was racing yesterday (11/9) and blew a front right CV shaft. I have spares so I popped a new one in. A thread i read previously said to check the engine mounts if you blow a front CV. Upon inspection, the front right mount was completely separated from the upper plate. This discovery saved me time and money, because i would have blown another CV if i went back out. Just wanted to thank you guys and wish everyone luck with with their builds. (Now if we could only come up with a solution for my power steering belt flying off after hitting the rev limiter, lol)

They do that at random every now and then, with almost no detectable cause. Mine has done it a couple of times (over 25 years!!). Never worked out why.

Welcome.

Glad to hear that you have gained some knowledge that has helped you.

I believe the only fix for the power steer belt is an electric conversion with a Holden astra pump.

If you get a chance, post pics of your car, please. 🙂

As above, can't rely on rubber belts too much when you're hitting OVER NINE THOUSAND !!!11!! revs, so electric conversion (Astra as mentioned above) is the way to go.

So....I managed to fix the belt coming off problem, but unfortunately i destroyed my oil pump. While testing and hitting my rev limiter a bunch, my oil pump took a shit. I actually heard it break. In my great wisdom i decided to hit redline 5 times (original plan). Lowered it to 7500 for the soft limiter. Normally it would come off on the first go. The 6th time I hit the limiter the pump broke and as i began accelerating again and hit it the 7th time, oil pressure dropped and the protection kicked in. It actually made a "tink" as if i dropped something hollow.

The motor is pulled and should be rebuilt and put back in 3 weeks. No bearings were spun and i could have gotten away with simply replacing the pump, but since i had to pull the motor....might as well build it

I made a billet tensioner and the belt stayed on without getting frayed. I also made one for a friends R33, but I was thinking of using a hydraulic unit to keep constant pressure on it when the belt stretches.

    • wow so i just logged back in after buying the 33 and joining SAU, And I've got all a whole bunch of you wanting to know more, well unfortunately it still doesn't run i was hoping it was seized from a snapped timing belt as i turned it over by hand and it was fine and then it did a few revolutions and jammed solid when i was running it with the key, so the timing belt is mint, I've also found a lot of the parts I'm removing have already got bolts undone or not quiet tight enough to be unsuspicious. so the plan is to find a running RB30 block and chuck my head on it.  I have a habit of buying stuff I don't need or require so for my none running engine i have a forward facing plenum , Apexi power fc, 40mm Turbosmart wastegate, And for the car its self coilovers ,low seat rails and BRZ seats (black seats with red stitching i already had these and they are ADR Approved and allow rear passengers access)
    • I took apart the dash and found this strange 2 pin connector. it dosen't seem like its factory or oem, any clue on why someone would add it and where it might have been connected too?
    • Not mention a SS2 especially with that rear oddly small rear housing. I feel the Facebook mechanics and experts has led OP in the wrong direction.
    • Won't get near 400kw, pump and injectors nowhere big enough. Bin the manifold and get off the shelf and a modern ECU.
