The prices of NCs are going to go up thanks to you... and partially the MCM guys.

I would be lying if I said I wasn't interested in what MCM were going to do with the NC

I really enjoy their banter and occasional collaborations (like Alan from TSF, Ben from BCW, or any of the Haltech guys throwing around their experience), and I have probably watched everything they have put out

I’m guess it’ll end up with a turbo

One would assume a turbo is somewhere in its future down the line given they slap turbos on pretty much everything that arrives

If it does get a turbo it would blow the JCW Mini out of the water considering how "close" some of the tests were.

Then again the Mini would probably get one of them Stage 69 tunes.

True on both points

It's actually a really weird comparison... the MX5 is on another level and I kinda question this comparison at all. It'd be closer to compare it to a GTI/Golf/Hatch anything that kicks around.

NC MX5 with a turbo has the right to go up with and beat the FD RX7 or 180SX or any other JDM hero car. That's the comparison that would really ruffle feathers.

Agree, but meh, I think is is based more on LOLS than actually apples to apples, like, who would have thunk a turbo 4 cylinder would not beat a NA 4 cylinder

I think with just basic N/A mods, like a exhaust and tune, it would be equal to the Mini in its current form, maybe

I know my current 2.5 would "chop the mini" as the midrange now has a night and day difference in power delivery compared to the tuned 2.0, by around 20kwatw and 30nm from around 2k rpm "ish".......

I'm kinda hoping that they do a N/A build, either with the MZR 2.0 or with whatever they decide to use

If I recall correctly they did talk about K swapping one a while ago

It's kind of interesting - They definitely do builds that split the difference between what they like and what will generate views and engagement.

The NC Platform always surprises everyone in a good way, in an uncomfortably good way some may say. They could throw a LS in there and arguably have the best (and best performing) car of the entire stable. But that isn't necessarily what draws views, because people viewing don't want to accept the vegetables of a LS NC MX5 being a superior vehicle in every way (including fun) than a RB26 240Z.

This is also why there's not a lot of content about the GR Yaris (on the web in general). They're too good, yet 'only a Yaris'

The community doesn't want certain cars to be as good as they are - to beat their hero cars, and I believe the NC MX5 is absolutely one of those cars.

People don't always want builds that are overly expensive, or have engineering/registration/insurance issues and head aches that come with them

Whilst big dollar builds, and complicated stuff is interesting to watch, there is only a tiny % of people who would actually use this information, or have the spare finances to drop on said builds, whereas the buy a cheap(ish) cool car, and make it better, with a average budget, that the average Joe or Jane could achieve will always be a winner in my opinion

I definitely agree with you there - I never click on content for cars I would never ever be able to get or compete with/against/be seen next to.

Seeing a MX5 compete with a FD RX7 will make people upset though, for sure. Even in 2.5L Turbo form which is pretty grass roots. (or at least as grass roots as classic cars can be)

Yes we're all classic car owners now.

I know which one I'd prefer to have in my garage, and which one I'd actually drive as intended

Their 240Z with the RB26 would be a real nice thing to have in a garage to come out for an occasional weekend cruise

It's such a cool thing in so many ways

Sadly, we have a blue 240Z shell that I walk past every day, just sitting outside a shed at work, it has been slowly disintegrating and falling apart into the ground for the last few years, the owner cannot be found, and I am unable to "claim it" I've been told by work and the RMS, the rust in the body is excessive though, and it has had most of the salvageable stuff, like panels, trim and switch gear stripped off it over the last year or two, work keeps threatening to put it in one of our metal scrap bins, I wish they did though, as it makes Mark sad walking past it

This could be sold and shipped to the US for many gold pieces. RMS has no say in that. Ask various Western Sydney inhabitants how it works.

Too much MCM talk on your thread, apologies 😂

But I do hope they keep it NA and not e85.

Mate, I take this thread in random directions on occasion myself, so no foul

I'm a old fan of MCM anyway, I like their banter, and enjoy most of the stuff they do

Another new used boot arrived at the painters, it was sent back as there was nearly as much damage as the original one I want to replace

Finding a clean used boot lid is proving problematic, and I'm not keen on dropping $1500 on a new one from Mazda

Sigh....

Not feasible to fix the boot lid you had? Damage looked minor/hard to even see 😛

Source: Drove into something recently and you should be happy you didn't!

Nah, the creases were pretty large, and the sheet metal is pretty thin and hard to work out, time alone is in the hours to fix, and would probably have more bog than I would be happy with

In other, more happy news, I gave MX5 Mania a call and they have a few clean boots available for $400 a peice, I've contacted Fineline and given them their contact details, I'm a idiot for not thinking of them sooner

    • Not sure why but RBF660/700 or Castrol SRF is listed as DOT4, not 5.1.
    • Interesting....can't say I've ever checked it, have always just changed it in the off season as practice
    • Just checking, when we are talking about high temp fluid, are we all referring to DOT 5.1? I haven't had any issues with changing it every 2-3 years.
    • Yeah that is still true AFAIK.....good brake fluid should be changed annually because it absorbs water faster which is more often than most mechanics would do it. There are cheap tools that check water% in brake fluid if you all scientific about it. I for sure would (do) run good brake fluid in anything that even casually saw the track like Murray said; avoiding the risk of "exciting" fade is worth it
    • Well, back in the day..... "race" fluids, which were essentially only really "high temp" fluids, used to absorb water more readily. So they really needed to be changed more often anyway. The coincidence of that being directly necessary along with it being what racers would do as a matter of course was just fine.
