I'm not keen on dropping $1500 on a new one from Mazda

Sigh....

Who are you to deny yourself?

I’ve said this many times to myself and apart from getting what I really want, I go quiet for a while whilst working out what I just did to my savings and how will I afford what it cost, then, next payday…

Whilst I typically don't cheap out on things, if I can save some money, like $1000, on a clean straight panel, that gives me $1000 to spend on other stuff, basically free money really 🤔 🤣

Is the toolbox that damaged the boot seal the same item that fell on the car during the storm a while back?

Nah, the one that hit the boot was a big steel locker, around 6 foot height, 4 foot wide and 2 foot deep, empty it weighs about 15kg and had about that amount of stuff in it

The photo didn't give a good representation of the actual damage, the large ding on the passenger side was about a inch deep, the one on the driver was about 1/2 inch deep, right on the curve, where the inner boot frame doesn't let you get behind it with a dolly

Basically the same issue with getting behind the damage on the centre of the boot

We could have filled it all with bog, but my OCD would be triggered every time I looked at it, knowing what hides beneath

As for the locker, I did get the shits with it and put it in the scap metal bin, but, I pulled it out and it is now sitting in the garage at home full of car servicing stuff, cleaning gear and random tools, it's going to pay for it's indiscretions

MX5 Mania send me a video of some cams we are looking at installed in a NC, this only has a quick tune loaded up and it will hit the dyno tomorrow to see how it actually performs

Will need to do the valves springs and retainers "while we're in there" for reliability

LOL....chop chop chop chop chop chop....

Fark, I cannot get the vid sent to my message thingie to actually work in here

Needless to say, the chop chop sounds epic, and David said it will be amazing in the 2.5

I keep seeing supercharger kits for these listed on marketplace 😂

I did look at superchargers for a bit, but from looking, and asking around, IRT the cash outlay and power gains, a turbo has multiple advantages on these little 4 pot engines

Either way, boost is not on the cards for my little beastie due to legalities and the cost of getting it legal

I just watched a Hagerty YT vid on the Rocketeer, with the 3L Ford/Jag AJ V6 in it.

I am now sold on the idea.

I'm wondering is the Toyota and Mazda "collaboration" could see that new Toyota ???G20 ??? turbo engine that they have been showing off recently into a future MX5, apparently it's good for 400hp out of the box

That could easily, possibly, be much better than the last collaboration between Toyota and Subaru with the boxer engine in the twins

The incoming weather event seems to be affecting people in weird ways....🤣

And no, whilst there is some fancy engineering going on, I have no real interest in anything rotary really

I had a Capella in the 90's, the rotary engine is way to temperamental, and extremely thirsty for my liking

If I won lotto and wanted to waste a ton of cash, a boosted K-swap would be what I would look at, until then, the N/A MZR2.5 will be at home in the engine bay of the NC

A build like this, just without the idiotic street pulls and skids would be interesting to waste a huge amount of money on

You would need to paint your hardtop again though

Nah, I much prefer colour matched

Talking about colour matching stuff, the new/used boot lid turned up, all painted up perfectly......aaaannnndddd, it's for a power retractable hard top, not a soft top.....LOL

They are now sending a boot to fit a soft top.....,  whilst frustrating, life is like that sometimes, sometimes you just need to dodge, duck, dip, dive and, ummm, dodge.

    • But it's much better to use a freedom unit that has four different possible meanings...
    • I would try messing with friction modifier to see if it smooths it out.  Just keep adding more until it stops chattering or grabbing quite so much. If you haven't changed the gear oil in a long time you may as well start there too in case that has anything to do with it. You might want to also verify the initial torque is set to the lowest setting too. Requires popping out one of the CV axles first but that's not too bad. Once you're sure the preload is set to the lowest you can try adding an ounce at a time of friction modifier until it feels right to you.
    • It is possibly 55 degrees for the Nismo version. I had a look through the manual and the stocker has a breakaway torque of 2.5 to 3.5kgm. Supposedly the Nismo LSD goes down to 5kgm when worn in but it is pretty grabby even with very little throttle. Worse when cold. So I guess you have three things. 1. Shims. 2 Friction plates 3. Cams Would think shims would be the easiest but Ive no clue how many tenths of a mm shim thickness change equals how many kgm torque. Also not sure if the Nismo friction plates are similar/different to stock or if they are the most of the source of the diff being angry. Think I can write off the Nismo rebuild kit for the standard diff as not being what I want.
    • Yeah, it was a bit of confusion with me, I rang and asked if they had a boot for a soft top, and then the paint shop when they rang and were asked if it had a hard top on it, which it does, just not a PRHT....LOL Meh, whilst frustrating for all concerned it isn't a war stopper and should be a thing of the past in a week or two In other N/A related news, car is booked in at the end of the month for the cams, springs, retainers, harmonic balancer and retune  I might even pull the lazy arse card and get them to do a full service on it whilst it is there
