it's for a power retractable hard top, not a soft top

Oh man, at least it sounds they've accepted they stuffed up and not put it back on you...could see some confusion if they asked if it had a hardtop or not, and you've answered truthfully but maybe not answering their real question which is what roof did it have from the factory!

Glad your keeping it N/A 2.5

Yeah, it was a bit of confusion with me, I rang and asked if they had a boot for a soft top, and then the paint shop when they rang and were asked if it had a hard top on it, which it does, just not a PRHT....LOL

Meh, whilst frustrating for all concerned it isn't a war stopper and should be a thing of the past in a week or two

In other N/A related news, car is booked in at the end of the month for the cams, springs, retainers, harmonic balancer and retune

I might even pull the lazy arse card and get them to do a full service on it whilst it is there

  • 3 weeks later...

So, we now have a straight and clean boot lid inbound and the car goes in for paint, again, on Wednesday, and will be ready on Friday, all ready to get cams and stuff on Monday

And by straight and clean.....I mean a brand new OEM one that cost..... $1300....😪

Sadly there's no clean undamaged used soft top version available, plenty for the power retractable hard top versions though, which is arse and makes Mark have the sads

I could have waited longer, until a NC sort top boot lid eventually turned up, but I'm sick of waiting and said fark it and made it rain cash, meh

In other naturally aspirated news, one of the guys at work brought in his old Corola which had a 4AGE in it, really nice clean car with lots of mods, including ITB's, man that things induction noise sounds sick with all of the dorts that makes you smile......maybe the NC needs ITB's, yeah, basically for the noise they make, but they're pretty expensive, but, they sound so damn good

I may bring this up when I drop the car up on Monday, and by may, I mean I will🤣🤑🤪🤣

There really needs to be an ODBII item that can play intake noise through speakers, synchronized with your current RPM and TPS%.

Just buy a BMW if you want that... You can then choose whatever engine of theirs you want 😛

that is still a future, potential state.....

I'll head down soon with some wire cutters to help you over the potential issue...

Also, I'm sure since you've got the rally comms system, we can hook a speaker from the stereo into the passengers mic, and then you can hear engine Vroom Vroom noises in your helmet.

Otherwise I'll use the grinder and make the exhaust a "bit" louder...

The idea is that this gives all the benefits of ITB's and Trumpets with zero downsides of ITB's and Trumpets :D

I see no real downsides to ITB's, apart from the initial cost of my drive in drive out lifestyle, the "upsides" is they sound cool and would add lots of smiles

I am willing to pay to play for the extra smiles

I've spent the morning googling and youtubing the BBR ITB's, a "little" extra power and throttle response, but alot more dort, and really, I'm only really in it for the dort

Who knows, after all this money is spent I might even make 150kwatw....LOL

What will you do when the Minister of War and Finance says the intake noises are too loud?

I'll tell her I put in a new air filter on it, which, it would have anyway with the ITB's

In the end she isn't to fussed, she spends lots of money on hair, nails, make-up and all the other "required" beauty products that women use, plus I grease the wheels with shiny gifts and holidays wherever and whenever I can

She once questioned my car spending "budget", but after itemising everything she spends on herself, and what I spend on her, and the fact that I don't care if she does or doesn't wear make-up and fancy pants perfume, or requires new outfits for every wedding, funeral or anything else she deems worthy, and I'm quite happy to go "real" camping, instead of staying in hotels or jaunts on cruise ships, she decided not to press the subject on how I spend funds, and has never asked "how much did that cost" again, so a win to me

And how often can you say you really get a win with the fairer sex?

She is a good woman, and in the big picture, I'm really lucky.....that she hasn't killed me yet

It wasn't about the dollars. I mean how she didn't like the loud exhaust and you had to change it again 😛

Ahhh, that, yeah, but it all worked out well in the end

As for the ITB noises, I don't really wind it out with her in the car, and the dort only really starts dorting hard when your WOT or up it hard

Well, the car is back, all straight and shiny, for how long for is anyone's guess

After picking it up we went for a bit of a drive, Jebus I really enjoy driving this little thing, hopefully the weather let's us go for a nice long cruise this weekend as it will be out of my hands for at least a few days next week when it heads back into Mania on Monday

It's weird, whilst I do always enjoy going for a drive, the NC makes me feel like a kid who has just got his first car, and they just want to drive wherever and whenever they can

I really need to look into the MX5 Club of NSW

    • The only Neo rods that were any different to any other RB25 rods were the DET ones, and they were the same as RB26. Here is a Neo DET rod. O5U part number visible. Here is a post in a thread here on SAU with evidence from someone who has done this before. There are photos in the thread of normal RB25 rods.
    • Sure, but why assume that will be the case forever? And why assume you'll be able to do an oil change to swap back to a stock drain bolt before that happens? And does it even matter when I change the oil at fairly short intervals? Life can be funny sometimes and unexpected things can happen. Like breaking a collarbone so you can't do any work on your car for a few months but the oil change is due so you have to take it to somewhere and hope they don't do something stupid like stacking the new drain plug washer on top of the old one.
    • Do u know how to identify the rods are rb25 or neo ones? Can u look into the pics and tell me is they de or de neo ones. Its confusing becoz my motor has de neo head but block is 25de 75t, so really confusing me about rods, crank.
    • Are you talking about the oil squirters? There is only one place for them to go. Yes, you have to drill the holes. Yes you have to obtain the correct oil squirters (I presume there is some sort of aftermarket option available, because original turbo ones are going to be a diminishing resource).
    • I thought you didn't let mechanics, especially those with no idea, work on your car any more? Wouldn't that mean it won't be an issue in your case?
