Hey guys. I have a 400R on its way to Australia from Japan currently and have a few questions I’m hoping others may be able to help with.
 

Wondering if anyone here has had any luck getting the Sat nav unit to work in Australia!? Assuming the Stereo is as simple as a band expanded and tv won’t work?  Seeing as they’re based off a Q50 which is Aus delivered is there any way to link that system to the nav? Nav modules and head unit are different part numbers and appear slightly different at the rear with plug ins etc. can I put my xtrail sd card into the rv37 and will that convert the maps or update to Australian? Has anyone got any advice here?

 

 

also has anyone fitted the factory remote start and Security system once it’s landed in Australia? I put an enquirey to Nissan Japan in via a third party, and they suggested it needs a Nissan Japan dealers device to setup and couldn’t guarantee if one here could do it or not. They can supply and I can physically fit it but to setup I would need a dealers device. Any information here would be appreciated also. I’ve seen one here with it fitted already prior to leaving Japan at a dealer/inporter, so clearly passes compliance and works when fitted Japan and doesn’t need changing here. 
 

 

also, does the tyre inflation sensors work here? Does anything change with them when the vehicle arrives? Where are they actually situated? I’ve read they have batteries and they need to changing at times and seems like resetting involves the nav system? 
 

any help here would be appreciated and any other aust specific information to help would be great. Looking forward to see what the current generation skyline is like and eager to see how many of the gadgets can be utilised here.  Thanks in advance

No idea about the remote start part.

If the V37 nav is anything like other Nissan JDM vehicles, you can't get the factory Japanese nav working in australia, a card from a different car almost certainly won't work, those cards are usually matched to the serial number of the DCU.  You could be possibly swap out the components from a AuDM Q50 to get it working, but if this is a new model (2021+) 400R, then you will lose the newer features like ACP/AA.  That said, if you have ACP/AA, just use google maps..

I assume a band expander would be required to get the local radio stations, but don't forget the Japanese FM band is narrower than ours, so you still might not be able to receive all Australian stations.

I can't see any reason the tyre pressure sensors won't work here, there is the sensor unit inside the rim and the receiver nearby in the wheel well.  I have never had to change the batteries on my 2015 Q50, so I assume they last quite a while.  A straight battery change shouldn't need them to be re-registered as they are the same unit, that should only be required if you replace a sensor with a new one.
 

Word of warning, if you ever go into the 'secret' diagnostics mode on the main screen, DO NOT EVER do a 'reset' in this menu, it will erase all of your model specific data in the DCU and you will need a trip to a dealer to re-program it all, which would be particularly painful being an import.  This applies to the AuDM Q50 too.

it’s a 2022 400R so would most likely lose those features as you say.  
 

I did a quick compare of a rv37 nav and heading for sale in Japan to q50 model. I’ll pop pics below. Seems

differences seem to be Aus delivered has a different plug top left hand side of head unit- not sure what and where it goes.

the actual plugs on a v37 and q50 screens look identical on both screens… pics below for comparing. (One screen was is a us delivered one) but should be same gps signals etc as Australia.

If it were as simple as swapping a nav unit from q50 aud delivered im interested -just want to figure out what the missing plug is for before spending big $ on a second hand part for it to not work, and I guess with the head unit, if the band expander does the job (I got a 20mHz so should get the range I’m after) so should narrow my issue down to nav unit only.  I’d love to know what the extra cable on rv37 does and if I eliminate that part what it’ll do to the setup, 

 

and also, if I can figure out what that head unit plug difference is, what does that cable do and where does it got can it be altered or re-plugged?!

Excuse my ignorance what is ACP/AA, what does that stand for? (Apple car play? Android air play)?

so If I swapped head units to save using a band expander, I’d likely lose those better features to have an oem Unit operational. Better to use a band expander and retain AirPlay options and newer version of head unit

th isn’t  a big deal/ would be cool to have it working  from what I can tel we use a PAL Signal and Japan uses a NTSC signal  I don’t know if there’s a co better or if the screen only reads NTSC, or if it’s the tv module that needs replacing… no big deal don’t need it but more of a curiosity thing on that!

 

Thanks for the info re tyre sensors, helpful and great to know.  I was reading the online manual off Japan website and it seemed to make it sound more confusing than it is  I guess a rim replacement would require the sensors to be moved to a new rim to carry that option over?!

 

 

Thanks for the info regarding diagnostic mode. I appreciate your help mate. Trying to brainstorm here to find a solution to get as much gadgets as I can working! I plan to get my local Nissan tech to have a look too who used to be at an Infiniti dealer back in the day to see if any thing they have or idea can find a soliton. But hoping anyone here has gone down the same route to make life easier!!

 

i guess identifying the cable/plug differences and what they do would be a great way of finding out if the units are transferable

Hard to say what the extra connector is, it looks a bit like a coax type connector, so possibly a separate radio/GPS antenna, or even another camera input?  The V37 series (including the Q50), did go through a model refresh in 2020, since Australia didn't get any Q50s newer than 2019, we didn't get any of the refreshed models, so there could also be other unexpected problems to overcome to swap an older Q50 head unit into a new model V37.

There probably aren't too many people around that have made these sorts of changes to a Q50/V37, so you might end up being the first if you do decide to go ahead.

ACP is Apple Car Play and AA is Android Auto, they are roughly the same thing for the 2 major phone operating systems (Apple's iOS and Android), it allows you to connect your phone and access a number of your phone applications on your car system.  With Nav apps included, so you could use google maps/Waze or whatever your favourite navigation app is, instead of using the built in navi system.  I think this would be a better solution if it is only Navigation that you are looking as swapping the head unit for.

GPS signals are the same around the globe as the GPS satellites continuously circle the globe, but it is the head unit that doesn't allow you to load Australian maps, or at least no-one had made an Australian map that will load up on the JDM head unit.

Regarding the TV standards, I assume you are referring to the AV inputs?  I haven't ever tried to use them, Japan used a slightly modified version of the US NTSC system, and Australia uses PAL for composite video, that said, I wouldn't be surprised if a video input could work with either system.  That is mostly irrelevant here though, unless you plan to use those inputs for something?

I think the solution Pac posted in the other thread is the way to go with the top screen; I have an ADM Q50 and I only use it for 2 things:

1. Reverse or front camera as triggered automatically by Reverse selection or the front sonars, and you can also call up the front left (or front) camera when parking by hitting the camera button on the centre console if necessary

2. Navigation. I can assure you that getting hold of a 10 year old nav system is utterly useless. The ADM system still has Inifiniti dealers marked (always give me a good laugh), is missing all new freeways, uses fixed speed by road type to determine arrival time, no traffic/re-routing, no speed cameras, no user reported cameras etc etc you get the idea

So, Pac posted in the other thread about a box that plugs into the USB C and gives you full Android OS to run whatever modern/connected nav you want on the top screen, and it still automatically switches back to function 1 above when required because it runs within the head unit.

The other modern alternative is the latest version of the Tesla screen like this:

But I haven't looked into whether it is compatible with Australian 4G bands yet so it may require a separate 4g dongle to provide data

+1 for getting a screen off alibaba, CarPlay/Android Auto is vastly better than whatever navigation cars had 10 years ago.

I got an Android screen for my 2015 BMW, huge difference. Fully compatible with factory stuff including iDrive controls.

I wonder if the extra plug out has anything to do with the factory optioned drive recorder, or traffic updates. It looks like these systems link to the main screens too, and probably rv37 specific over Q50 perhaps?

The car has a Japanese TV in it already. For compliance it will be disconnected I think.  From what I read it only works when the handbrake is engaged anyways, but an aftermarket module can be installed for use with handbrake not applied. I was more so curious if there was a way to convert the NTSC to PAL for Australian operation. (I don’t need it but it’s cool to have the gadgets working) I have a BNR34 MFD I converted years ago to take PAL signal in my skyline and I linked it to the DVD Head unit for dual screen use. There was some write up on SAU back in the day how to do it and I can’t remember what was involved. So sorta curious what can be done here etc.

The Rv37 model comes with Apple play and Android, I think the Q50 doesn’t? so for me I can simply plug my phone into the usb or maybe blue tooth and that will become it’s own Nav that way independent  I’m happy for this option but again figured if there was a factory module can it be used or updated.  It had SD card slot for map updates so I could update it if I can get AUS specific maps on it,

 

That alibaba screen does look neat.  I’m not ready to bust a move just yet on it or something like to as my car can take my Apple iPhone already.  Also it doesn’t say it suits current model Rv37 skylines but the Q50, so perhaps it may not be skyline compatible.  I’d love to see one installed to know first hand or even see one in Q50 and hear some feedback, is it cheap Chinese junk!? Is it good? Does it suit RHD? Is it internet compatible like a normal tablet, and will it support all rv37 specific options like map zoom and steering wheel control and Bose system and so on.. I’m certainly intrigued and interested  

 

 

I’ve done some digging around.; my local Nissan has a tech guy ex Infiniti and he wants to try trick the nav unit into think it’s q50 so it takes Aussie software or something,  When it arrives I will take it there and see what he can do. 
 

Also seems we no longer have Nissan connect app available in Australia now. I’ve read my dealer books etc at home and it seems in Japan via that app you can purchase internet plans for the rv37 skyline to work through the screens inside. it seems that you can get traffic updates, it links to ETC, and I believe the in car specific recorders. This video then is all stored and visible via app. the Nissan connect app can also be used for remotely starting and controlling heaters etc from afar. Seems tv was also part of this. I’ll have a further look and play when it arrives. (I wonder if I can somehow get the Japan version of Nissan connect on my phone and use the remote start features etc) App Store won’t allow it as region specific- need configure that one

 

rv37 has multiple security options and packages.  Premium package comes with tilt sensor, remote and battery in siren, and can be bundled with auto mirror retract when locked, door jam illumination when opened on drivers side only, and also remote start.  Otherwise all modules can be purchased separately and still applied but easier to do as a whole and bundle for shared hardware and looms. (This is where Nissan Japan have advised the security part needs a dealer device to set up). Australia dealers have advised me Australian delivered models weren’t offered factory optioned  security systems so they don’t really know what’s entailed and what device.  Nissan Japan state that the other components like mirror retract and door lighting and remote start should still work on that package even if security doesn’t (however security still may).  I’m tempted to purchase and take the risk on this. There’s a possibility it can be made to work by piggybacking off signals etc instead too.  
 

im curious if any Q50 owners have a factory optioned security system with these options or just a factory optioned system. If so I’d imagine the same device or process for installation should be needed meaning someone with Q50 dealer Experience may know. (Waiting on my local tech to get back to quiz further here prior to ordering)

 

and like q50 some of the v37 models have the scuff panel illumination and the footwel illumination too.  I see 400R wasn’t compatible according to Nissan diagrams.  I’m guessing it didn’t have a plug out for this. Would be a nice addition… I wonder if anyone has this in a rv37 or q50 and has a wiring diagram or booklet for installation to know where to piggyback the system too.  Seems to activated by door opening, so if imagine it would grab a door ajar signal and 12v and earth and probably ignition, but curious to know more as it’s pretty much the only factory option the 400R doesn’t take.  

 

Thanks for your inputs. I’m finding so little information rv37 skyline specific as apposed to Q50 so trying to pioneer forwards and see can and can’t work and what options are there to help. 
I’ll keep updated when the car is landed and ready to play with on these things in the hope it helps others and my journey can assist.  Appreciate any input and help.  Cheers

Was that Australia Delivered Duncan? Does it have siren etc?

 

I used to have remote start on an old 32 two decades ago, it was a cool feature. I used to wake up early in winter for work. Start it and by the time i was out the door a few minutes later the engine was warmed up and the heaters had the car toasty. It was great. 
 

I don’t mine the ambience lighting.  I drive a western star and it has footwell lights and ambient lighting and it’s great! From the pics of seen of them installed in a skyline I think it’s a nice touch

    • Ok so I have sorted everything with my uniclutch and  i can offer up a bit of feedback and some things that might help others.    I found problems with factory damper line. Weird shit and had trouble with peddle adjustment    I used this https://au.gktech.com/products/r33-gts-t-skyline-braided-clutch-line?_pos=2&_sid=22b01b9b9&_ss=r Also when adjusting peddle leave a bit of play. You can get into a over stroke condition easy.. Make sure you can push the slave forward after adjusting to confirm fluid can return to master then you will need to pump it up heaps…..not sure why but that’s how it is.    last thing the splined adapter is machined perfectly. If your input shaft is old like mine was I would put a bit of valve grinding paste on it and stroke it like a 15 year old. Just to give it a tad more clearance and to better match it to the spline.    reason is on a near flat shift I have had situation where the peddle returns a millisecond after you lift from the clutch. No slip or anything but I reckon this is due to tolerance on the spline being way tighter than stock clutch and binding for a sec. I think this will go away but also my spline was old. Box is old so I guess I should have checked better. It’s a super neat fit.    it feels light as and holds awesome without any noise    
    • My Fuga Hybrid is JDM, 2014 model but very similar to the V37 from the looks of things..same platform just physically larger and very comfortab;e
