Well after only securing the purchase 5 weeks ago with my supplier in J my car is due to dock in Fremantle this afternoon. Im very excited now :( Ive got a whole heap of goodies ive bought for it arriving later this week and early next week aswell as a whole heap of bits to give it a nice service :(

Its only taken 12 days on the boat to get from Japan to Perth, which was very speedy indeed. Im hoping parts and wheels etc havent been swiped from the interior on its journey. My supplier thus far has been very good at communicating with me and keeping me upto date on all relevant details. He is now also able to source me parts at a decent price. I have already paid for a whole replacement front end thats being shipped over soon (drift spares ;P)

Im going thru the whole import process myself, no brokers or anything, and I am going to document the costs etc thoroughly so someone else can do the same thing and save themselves a few hundred dollars in the process.

Its Takushi Time!

congrats good to hear. Now the true test of patience awaits with the guys at epa, compliance and so forth.

even thou i waited for mine only 3.5 months from begining to end to get registered. It seemed like years. seemed like the procedures/issues were never gonna end.e.g docking, quaranitine, compliance.

although,

First time i set eyes on it at the sydney storage place. U get the butterflies. Being a rare as chips car here in sydney australia even, u cant stop looking at it as it was the first time i had seen one in the flesh. hahaha

all made up for it.

Well im paying for my freight and going to Customs to clear it tomorrow. Customs takes around 24 hours for clearance, so first thing Monday morning I should be able to book a quarantine inspector to come have a look at it later in the day or on Tuesday. I already had some decent cleaning done to the car in Japan so I will be surprised if It needs cleaning here, but if it does I dont forsee that taking longer than a day to organise. I should have the car by Wednesday at the latest.

Compliance will take some time, but I have dealer plates so Im not in any big rush because I can still drive the car around, errr sensibly around :(

JK

Well I went and paid for my freight this morning and saw the Car Carrier at the docks... that thing is bloody massive! Should have customs clearance by Monday morning as I submitted my Entry Form this morning, and quarantine within 24 hours from then! Woohoo!

JK

good work man!

yeah nothing wrong with driving it around while u dont have plates... thats what a temp rego is for... costs like 28 dollars or something like that and last for a month... cheaper if u dont get it that long.

i drove my skyline round for a month before registering it.

err i did.. just to get tyres and new clutch and stuff for blue slip.. lol

i past numerous cops cars who didnt even look at the car..

hmm the sleeper effect.

Get some pics up JAIK when its registered

i drove all of my imports from the dock, but i was driving the skyline around one day with compliance but no rego plates, there was a cop car a few cars up the road, so i thought i'd just stay behind them, but then a tow truck **** looked like he was in a huge rush to get past me, so i let him past and he stops next to the cops at the lights, said something and then the cops just stops to wait for me to drive past, and then pulled me over...they couldnt find anything to get me on so they just took down my details and i never heard from them again. so i just dont want the hassle of talking to useless bush cops in the rain, wasting my time

I hit a bit of a snag this afternoon. Customs called me whilst processing my Entry and advised me they need auth from the EPA about my aircon. I had my system removed in Japan and got a certificate to say it has been removed so a quick fax to the eastern states and they are liasing with customs in Fremantle to sort it out. I shall be sure to note that down in my Import How To :)

JK

Well after arriving at the docks to be greated by a flat tyre and a dead battery, all is well and the car runs well on the street. I had to pay $85 for a Quarantine Inspection and $85 to wash/clean the car. Oooo and Ive discovered that the cars got a nice mech diff in it, something which I wasnt aware of. The car has a few more dents and dings in it than I thought it had by looking at the photos, but what can I expect for under $3k?

    • Cheers, and cheers for sharing so much of the build and also sharing the glimpse of what turns out to bring a lot of us poor decision makers together haha.  I do recommend learning more about how to manage it, if not considering getting a  formal diagnosis.  The discussion with the psychiatrist I got my diagnosis through was quite eye opening, things I'd not even considered to be ADHD related and hadn't mentioned were things she asked about out of the blue and were common themes with people with my flavour of ADHD.   It's not a label for people who are hyperactive and ill-attentive, there's more to it than that and some of it can be much more challenging or damaging - though there are of course two sides to the thing, and a lot of the stuff we have to go through and work on to live with it make us effectively "better" at other things as well. Aside from the fact that there is some argument I could have a bit of ASD seasoning in there (came up during the diagnosis, and neurodiverse things seem to not stay as a cookie cut) I suspect you need to learn more about ADHD if you are puzzled about how hyperfocus could possibly apply.  I *do* personally use "superpower" with quotes deliberately, but it's 100% an ADHD thing due to the exact reason that lack of focus is also an ADHD thing... Loosely speaking the inattentive side of ADHD isn't the inability to focus, it's the inability to control where the focus goes.  Not being able to sleep because brain is more interested in thinking about a stupid thing I said to a girl I liked 30 years ago, not being able to focus on work because my brain is more keen on putting together the torque management strategy we're going to try out with a drag car next weekend, not being able to focus on a conversation with someone I WANT to listen to and respect because there is a flickering light in my peripheral vision.    If I could just stop work and build the torque management setup right there and then I'd not hear anything else until it was done.
    • Maybe you should do some more reading.  Google positive effects of ADHD and you'll get your answers.  One of my personal downsides of ADHD has been talking before I think.   Maybe you have it too?
    • Excuse me for butting in....but which part of ADHD can be considered a superpower? I would have though it far more likely that some ASD comorbidity is more likely to be contributing to an ability to hyperfocus on something. ADHD being aimed somewhat in the other direction. My shed looks like your shed. My whiteboard list of unfinished projects has entries going back 15 years. I know what you're talking about - I just struggle to connect ADHD to the results being discussed.
    • Thanks for reaching out!  It's a blessing and a curse at the same time.  I'm undiagnosed but it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see it in me... I have more half started projects laying around my house, shed, garden, etc taking up space and money, destroying aesthetics than if I added up all of my mates projects together. But, ADHD gives me the ability to hyper focus on things that no mere mortal could even  comprehend.  A recent pool build is an example of that....  I dont know anyone else that would be dumb enough and focused enough to take on then complete something of that magnitude. I call ADHD a superpower but it can equally be completely destructive if not controlled and focusedon the right places. Addiction is a major concern to ADHD people and thankfully my addictions have been no worse than projects, XBOX, chocolate and being an arsehole! It's often hereditary and my 13 year old son is currently learning how to drive it at the moment. Keep lurking! If i can finally finish this bloody thing at some point it will be a win for all of us ADHD'ers! 🤪
    • I've been quietly following this thread for ages, but this one got me. Since my ADHD diagnosis (and associated learnings and prescription) I'm way less inclined to wade into forum yarns when there are better things to do with my time, as half the time I'd end up in some kind of forum debate even if that wasn't my intention. I've not lost the ADHD "superpowers", just am a lot better at directing my hyperfocus into slightly more constructive things, but haven't stopped quietly lurking in here in my spare time.
