how can you tell if it is type M or not??????

what are the tell tale signs???

the only thing i know is that type m has a back windscreen wiper

are you sure about the windscreen wiper thing?

Type M's have a LSD, slightly larger brakes which have like cooling fins on them. Sideskirts and a different front bar.

My thoughts are Type Ms are a figment of everybody's imagination.

If its turbo its Type M. I am yet to see a Turbo v Type M that doesnt have the same 4pot fronts brakes with the same size rotors, the same twin pot rears. I have been told mine is a Type M becuase of my kit, others tell me its not a Type M as i dont have the automatic front spoiler lip, i dont have ABS yet i have seen Type Ms with and without ABS (owners/dealers claims)...i would love to know for sure...perhaps that Nissan software floating around SAU somewhere will tell you if you throw in the car details.

well said.

the general talk on these forums is that type M generally has:

- 4 pot front and 2 pot rear brakes

- rear wiper

- different steering wheel (GTR-style)

- LSD

but almost everything was an option in japan so who knows??

as far as i am concerned as long as the car has 4-pot front and 2-pot rears then i don't car about the rest as that's the real advantage of the type M R32gtst, if it at all exists as Roy suggests...

Good find Skyline_Boy. Well ill eat my words.

My car came with aftermarket steering wheel, and in the pictures they both seem to have rear windscreen wipers....were rear spoilers an option on all?

Meh as long as the differences are onbly cosmetic then it dotn really bother me. My car has a viscous diff.... is the Type M to GTST diff different...how?

Can you increase the res of that pic or link to it somewhere? Bit hard to see inside the cabin, etc. It'll be in the Japanese writing there to the side I'd say.

Its a weird one, because a) 99% of skylines I have seen have the rear spoiler or its been purposely removed

B) those rims I've never really seen on an R32, either over in japan or elsewhere??? most have the usual 5 spoke jobbies.. Those rims almost look like the HR31 rims that I had for a bit.

Nissan brought out Type M's and Type S's for people who wanted to have a car as close as it got to a GTR without being a GTR. so it scored rims, steering wheel, sway bars and rear wing in some cases. HICAS was optional on all models so that's not really something to go by. I think with the Type M's and S's you got some optional stuff like CD player as a stock part.

Also there's differences in the 1989 Type M's and the 1991 Type M's.

got this info from meggala (oh mightiest of lords of all things NISSAN):

Type M turbo bigger 4 spot brakes LSD strong transmission

Type S non turbo higher trim level alloy wheels sunroof

Type J non turbo normal trim non alloy wheels no sunroof

through my own research as well ive found that yes the body kit is quite a bit different larger side skirts and front bar, ive seen some 'non type-M's' and they can look abit ugly if nothing's been done to the body

Mine has the lower grade fabric, but all 89's I've seen (not all necessarily, but the ones I've seen have this) but has:

- HICAS, ABS, 4 spotters, finned alloy cover LSD

- GTR style wheel, digital climate, premium sound system (well, it's a bit more 'premium' now)

- Electric front spoiler, projector headlights, factory body coloured wheel arch extensions (sort of like mud flaps), driving lights (removed), rear wiper.

I always assumed my car was an M but it seem a little cloudy as to what makes an M.

In the end its still worth the same so meh...

- HICAS, ABS, 4 spotters, finned alloy cover LSD - i would agree with this,

- GTR style wheel, digital climate, premium sound system - gtst's and gtr's share the same mags

man i dont even now waht a front spoiler i though :)

im pretty sure the "pods" are a big thing though (being only on better models)

but this is only through my experience (though i had to look at a $#@#! load of cars before getting mine) which is a type m, its in the gallery
