Hi Guys,

I’m looking to buy an R34 soon. Late Aug/Sept 2004.

I’d like to hear from anyone who has imported an R34 recently.

- Can you recommend anyone in Brisbane (For an R34 – not R33)?

- Are there many plates left?

- Can you give me an idea of costs – Car, compliance, etc? (approx prices would be great).

- Did you bring in any aftermarket parts?

- Any trouble with compliance process?

- Anything to watch out for?

Thanks

Pear

Hey Pear

I got my R34 about 2 weeks ago after importing it through J-Spec (melbourne based).

The only places i know about for importing are J-Spec and Prestige - J-Spec are and agent/broker and organise everything for you, so it doens't matter about them being in Melb. they are contactable by phone and e-mail only.

However - J-Spec are really slow, my car took 6 months to arrive and their site says it should take 8-12 weeks.

Compliance plates took a white, and the company which i got them through (Auto FX in Sydney) received 12 some time ago. Look them up and find out if they have any left.

Cost... well it really depends. colour, km's, transmission, mods, overall condition. i got my R34 for $25,000 landed AND complied, which works out really cheap. plus tires and it was about $26,500. My R34 is bright red, no spoiler, really clean condition and drives very well - oh yeah, and no mods. i looked for 2 months for a R34, and prices ranged from $25,000 - $35,000 ($35,000 usually had under 20,000 k's, immac condition, and the rare "blue" colour).

Bringing in aftermarket parts on the car is risky - for starters, when it is getting shipped you'll probably lose half of them... people on the boats have a bit of a poke around. and plus, many aftermarket mods will get removed due to compliance. sus it out with the importing company you choose.

My compliance process took a while - they told me 2 weeks, and it ended being close to 4. but the thing that took the longest was waiting for the compliance plates to become available. so definately make sure there are some plates before you got paying for the car.

Expect to pay $5,500 for compliance on an R34 - i was quoted $5,000 and it worked about to be 500 more. once it lands in brisbane (that's where mine landed), be prepared as they might have a bit of trouble with the air conditioning gas - they have to de-gas it as required by the department of environment, etc. find out what tires are compliance standed before they put them on - i requested different tires on my car, and they put the wrong ones on! i had to pay for them to swap even though it wasn't my mistake. so be careful, and keep in constant communication with the agent/compliance workshop (depending on what stage it is at).

if you have any more inquiries, feel free to PM me or reply to this post!

good luck.

Regards,

Shaun

Search for RAWS at this site:

http://raws.dotars.gov.au/rawswebpublic/RA...AWPubSearch.asp

There seems to be only one guy in QLD with plates according to that site and hes in Southport.

You're lucky to have such a big choice, zero Stagea compliers in NSW, zero in Vic, one in Perth and 3 in Qld, but one has no licences left. So I had a choice of 2. :headspin:

Well DOTARS are actually quite crap and have not updated the website for a while. There are other compliers (I know of one, but there may be more) who can do it.

Of the 3 compliers on the DOTARS website for NSW, 1 will not deal with the public, 1 has sold all his compliance plates and the remaining one only has a couple left.

Luckily there are more workshops on the way to becoming RAWS so there should be no shortage in the short term.

Check out all the R34's at auction in Japan. You should send them an email. I'm sure they'll be able to answer questions on importing an R34.

Hmmm... bayside blue :aroused:

Hmmm... Nismo kit :headspin: :)

    • Hey lads, reviving an old thread.  As an update, since the last time replied to this thread, ive done mostly suspension. Havent touched the motor except for maintenance. Though upon changing spark plugs, found out i had splitfires pre-installed! Updates: - Got me some stock airbox top cover and snorkel to fit onto the original intake. Should be free of defects - Bought a set of R34 GT-T brakes (not installed yet, going to rebuild + respray in champion blue + white 'Nissan' text) - Bought the last set of bilsteins from @Sydneykid and had them installed. Has been making some sounds on the rear but hopefully should be sorted out after this New Year break. - Regreased front caster rod bushings (poly bushes..) - Rear upper camber arms - Whiteline sway bars (BNF27Z 22mm + BNR11XXZ 24mm).  The rear sway bars are a bit short (ive read 50mm else where) but was still able to get them in.  Anyhows, I reckon suspension is sorted now. Maybe replace bushes (do have a set of front upper control arms from SK not installed yet) but should be okay for now. From now, I'm wanting to start working on the motor, drivetrain etc etc. Still debating on the order to go on and what to buy etc but: - ECU ( Haltech or Link ( Link states that it dont support A/T or AWD functions... Can anyone attest to this? ) - Highflow turbo ( ATR43ss2 ) - Intercooler ( Not decided yet, but cant find many good afoordable ones. Toshi says to opt for crossflow Japanese. Bit difficult this one, unless I get a returnflow Blitz from JJ? ) - Injectors ( Any recommendations ? I do have a nismo FPR ( Thanks SK ) ) - Seats - Tune by either Toshi or DVS To be fair, I did consider just keeping the stock turbo and nistuning it. Sat in a mates stock N, that had something like 200kw, and I reckon that felt more than enough. Maybe I should just go this route ahhaha. Too many choices.... Planning a trip down south, so wanting to just clean things up and make sure it gets to and from in one piece. Anything else specifically I should do before ? Cheers lads
    • Must be for the car’s lucky charm 🤷🏽‍♂️ She runs fine, but it just seems to take about 1L less. Maybe I’ll have the oil sump dropped at some point to check if there is anything
    • Hmmm interesting. Mine is the exact same and clearly the right one.  The mystery of the engine oil being full after 3.5-4L continues
    • Yes I as well would like to find out where I could get some of the seat material with the red or blue small squares in it
