Probably should really work out what you want out of it power wise, because you may be better of swaping in a 25/26 before you start spending on the RB20.

If you will be happy with 200-250RWkw the RB20 will get there, but if you want a lot more it may be smart to start figuring the costs on a 25/26.

Personally Im spending far too much on an RB20 in a GTS4 but its going to be enough for me if I can get around 250Kw at all four wheels.

Im all for chasing more power, but you car aint a GTR so id be addressing susp and brakes before you get too concerned about more power.

In my opinion 250kw's is heaps in a r32 with its slightly lighter body.

Nissan's main reason for adding .5lt of displacement was mainly to compensate for the extra weight of the r33 and r34.

After you put your cooler on, you could invest in a boost controller so you can wind it up a bit and see how you notice the difference.

My car went from 118kw's with just an exaust and pod to

158.8kw's with blitz LM cooler, boch 044 pump, pod, bleed valve (13psi), and re-mapped ecu.

Alot of fun but now im sick of it and want more power.

In my opinion gradually turn your car into a beast so then along the way you can get used to the drivability and power along the way. You will become alot more comfortable behind the wheel and alot safer.

take it easy

Mark

As said previously..

If you want some thing that is drivable and gutsy around the street, the RB20 won't do it.

Look in to a RB25 buildup using a R32 RB25DE motor, If you use the R33 RB25DET you will have issues with it not looking stockish.

The RB30DET is a monster. Sounds awesome. :P

Comparing the sound of a RB30DET to a RB20DET is like comparing a 10A to a 13B.

I suspect Joel already knows my thoughts...and i know an RB20 wont out grunt its bigger RB brothers, but to say the RB20 wont do it?!?!?!

Can anyone reading this who has driven my car offer comment...i think my car with the TD06 setup is very driveable, and there is no reason why as a street car cant be driven every day...up to my little cam hickup i was driving my car everyday and had put over 20,000kms on my car with the TD06 in a little over 8 months :P

And i know my car isnt the quickest thing gettig around, but i think its great fun. It lacks a bit of grunt down low, but with a few revs on board it sounds great and goes pretty well. For me i wanted my car to be fun, have a bit of poke and sound trick :(

I can understand others wanting to build the sharpest tool, but my car is for me and i dont need to be the quickest thing out there. Plus i cant afford it (Be great if i could though  )

So if your thinking is similar to me i wouldnt be so quick to forget about the RB20. I recently was corrupted and started down the RB30 path but stopped when i stopped and considered would my car be any more fun???? With what i use my car for it didnt make sense. Didnt mean i dont want to do it, but throw the $$$$ into the equation and considering my current situation i couldnt justify it.

If you want to beat V8s then to me that aint worth spending the 2-5k to go bigger then RB20. Id be simply looking at throwing an ECU, injectors, turbo and intercooler at your car.(which is still going to easily cost 5k)

Just buy a cheap rb26 and bolt it in. Sell your old engine and for arround 3k you will have a good drivable car. Trust me ive done the conversion and with 211rwkw at 6k and the boost controller wouldn't hold boost past there its already a good package.

Cost me $4000 to get the gtr engine in my car and running and when you compare that to say a rb25 or a rb20 with a turbo upgrade $1500, z32 afm $300, bigger injectors $350, new computer or chip plus tune $500 upto $1500. Add it up. It isn't really worth the money to end up with lots of lag. Although I don't mind the hit of a 20 when it comes onto boost. My 26 power is a bit to linear for a turbo car.

    • Hey guys I don't visit the forums anymore so not even sure how I found this thread but here it is, what a shock.  I'm so glad Neil and Mel got out of Sydney and had some relaxing fun time before this happened.  Neil is a great bloke and will be sadly missed.
    • My OCD says that exhaust is sticking way to far out for a BMW.   Sorry for making you now upset with your exhaust again...
    • That is not true. The R32 GTR wiring diagram is freely available and has been for literally 25 years. And you don't even actually need it because the situation is so simple that you literally only have to use the wire that runs to the original dash indicator. Your car has a problem. That problem is unique to your car. I assure you that if I went out and did it to my car right now, it would work.
    • Thanks man, yes unfortunately normal bar went on after a minor accident. Smash repairer ordered the wrong version, needed my daily driver back asap so just accepted it.  Hoping an aero bar in gun metal grey (KH2?) pops up for sale soon, I know paint from different cars won't match perfectly but will look good enough
    • If it is the case that your stock dash high beam light lights up as it should, all you have to do is tap into the power wire for the high beams dash globe and feed it to pin 25 on the Haltech dash.
